Qualcomm raises their prices, and you somehow find a way to blame Tim Cook? Unbelievable... or it would be if this weren't the MacRumors forum...
TC has been a busy man, ruining Apple while singlehandedly causing climate change, endless wars, bad movies, and still somehow finding the time to cause the landslide in Nepal. No wonder he's retiring.
btw, Tim Cook is also the reason Apple won't be dependent on Qualcomm for much longer. But giving credit where it is due isn't the TC haters' way...

What will you do without that particular dead horse to beat on? I assume it's Ternus next. Give him a little time, though. You owe yourself a vacation. Find a nice tropical island, relax on the beach and only be consumed with thoughts about Tim Cook like 90% of the time. Enjoy!

Raise and raise until there are only exactly as many buyers left as they can sell to. That's how markets work.
I don't understand this obsession for speed, most people won't see any difference on most networks for daily uses depending on where they stand. Having the fastest (and most expensive) chips won't make any difference. I have travelled with iPhones with Apple modems inside, watching 4k videos on youtube or netflix with the best quality has never been an issue

I only skipped the 16 PM. I would skip this year except I have wanted a fold for many years. But then the fold will probably be 3x better next year with folding display tech supposedly getting massively better next year. It really is one of those times where waiting makes more sense. If only I were a practice what I preach sort of non-idiot who didn’t give as much money as possible to Apple, but unfortunately, I am the idiot who makes the stock prices go through the roof and rewards these jerks like Tim Crook.
With government entities and contractors now making up the majority of the market this was inevitable. General consumer products are not the profit leader. Even Apple has been focused on agency and enterprise the last few years. I’m started here because I liked the products but it’s been so different anymore that I’m looking to leave

Cost of electronics and chips are going up because every little thing now has to have a little computer and modem in it. My air fryer has wifi. Fridges have displays and are connected to the internet. Every new car has a modem and dozens of sensors. Every lightbulb, every speaker, every home appliance has electronics and internet nowadays.

Of course Qualcomm could continue absorbing the costs, they just choose not to. (They made $5.5b in profit last fiscal year).
Refusing to absorb rising costs is fine, but let's not pretend they "can't absorb them".

I don't see anything greedy. What's wrong with charging the most you can for your products? Apple is not a charity. If people still upgrade an phone every damn year than that's their own fault. LOL! I keep my Macs for about 8 to 10 years and my iPhones for 4 years. Paying 200 Euros more is not that the end of the world if you keep the machine for 10 years.

That’s what I’ve been doing for years. Went from iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone 12 to 16PM. Replaced battery twice in that time.
iPhones tend to last and maintain performance for a long time. And if Apple makes them obsolete faster to force people into upgrading more often, there goes the major reason to not switch back to Android.
I really don't care anymore about Qualcomm one way or another. That used to be not the case. I had an iPhone Xs with Verizon for 3 years, that had a crappy Intel cellular Modem. The connection was terrible. I could not get even reliable calls in my own basement with that phone, as I had to go upstairs to make or receive a call, and this was during the Covid scare, when I had to work full time from home for 6 weeks. And general cellular connection was just not even as good as my previous 6s in any case. I replaced the Xs with a 13 Mini, and a Qualcamm 5G modem. It worked so much better, in every situation, even in my basement. During the 4.5 years I had that phone, I NEVER knowingly was in a mmWave reception area. Earlier this year I replaced the 13 Mini with a 17e, and now I have an Apple cellular modem. It works great, I can't tell the difference between it and the 13 Mini, except that everything just runs faster. I could care less about not having mmWave.
Sounds exactly like what Apple does to developers in the App Store with regards to in-app purchases!
It always irritates me that a shortage leads to customers paying more. If the company can’t supply it is THEY that should take the hit.

No it doesn’t and this is an insane take.
Apple helps me with my taxes every year, and international laws regarding distribution globally as a developer. Apple keeps their SDKs updated and add new features for us as developers very regularly. All for 15% which is dramatically less than most retail stores take as a cut.
Qualcomm makes one part of the phone, one time.
It’s not the same thing.

5-6 years is where I'm at with Apple laptops. Our iPhones and iPads last longer.
The absolute majority of people who buy the latest silicon don't need the latest silicon and only buy for the sole reason of wanting the latest thing. Nothing wrong with that, of course.
