They are completely different things.Sounds exactly like what Apple does to developers in the App Store with regards to in-app purchases!
Everything's going up but the paychecks...
Yeah, good luck with that in today's economy. Especially with a looming recession. And what about all those newly-graduated kids looking to start a career? What about those who want to work in the tech sector? By the time you or me got to where we should be, their jobs will be eaten by AI.People can try and find different jobs to deal with that problem. You don't have to be stuck with the same job and same problem for ever, you know?
I don't know what the job market looks like where you are. Over here there are massive shortages in jobs that will never be taken over by AI.Yeah, good luck with that in today's economy. Yep, I see that as the downside of capitalism. Given some companies just run themselves in to the ground golden parachutes etc. Then wash rinse repeat.Raise and raise until no one buys and the market collapses.
I’m guessing the 17 Pro or American 18 Pro version will be the last Qualcomm modems in the iPhone with Qualcomm significantly raising the prices.AI buildouts don’t just consume DRAM and NAND. TSMC raised its wafer prices by double digits for all nodes from N2 to N28.

AI Capacity Fully Booked: TSMC Reportedly Raising Prices Across the Board by 10% to 15% — BigGo Finance
Explosive AI chip demand has pushed TSMC's advanced process capacity to full utilization, with N2 and N3 capacity almost entirely booked by Apple and…finance.biggo.com
Even components most people don’t think about including MLCC capacitors have gone up 25-50%.
The $300 increase for M6 Mac mini isn’t just DRAM and NAND. It’s for everything from wafers to PCBs to capacitors.
Apple 🍎 probably already let Verizon know that they may have to sell the iPhone without mmWave because they are not paying Qualcomm’s crazy high modem prices. Verizon will have to just make money off Samsung as they religiously use Qualcomm for all their phones.Yep, because the Intel... Er, Apple modem team still can't figure out mmWave, which is required by Verizon.
The 16e, 17e and iPhone Air were all a beta test for how well the Apple Custom Modem would work. It has performed great so far.I really don't care anymore about Qualcomm one way or another. That used to be not the case. I had an iPhone Xs with Verizon for 3 years, that had a crappy Intel cellular Modem. The connection was terrible. I could not get even reliable calls in my own basement with that phone, as I had to go upstairs to make or receive a call, and this was during the Covid scare, when I had to work full time from home for 6 weeks. And general cellular connection was just not even as good as my previous 6s in any case. I replaced the Xs with a 13 Mini, and a Qualcamm 5G modem. It worked so much better, in every situation, even in my basement. During the 4.5 years I had that phone, I NEVER knowingly was in a mmWave reception area. Earlier this year I replaced the 13 Mini with a 17e, and now I have an Apple cellular modem. It works great, I can't tell the difference between it and the 13 Mini, except that everything just runs faster. I could care less about not having mmWave.
They have their own modem now with the C1 and C1X and we will hear about the new C2 modem at next week’s iPhone Keynote.Apple needs to start making its own chips in-house and cut these clowns out.
I am not defending anyone but it seems to be the credo of the modern world, gouge untilThen thank goodness that starting tomorrow, Tim Cook will no longer be CEO. Earlier this year, when chip prices went up, not only did Cook raise prices on new products with those chips, but he also raised prices on refurbished products in Apple's Certified Refurbished store for products that were manufactured before the chip price increases! Such unjustifiable greed is typical of Tim Crook.
It always irritates me that a shortage leads to customers paying more. If the company can’t supply it is THEY that should take the hit.
Yes, it’s very well established but I fundamentally disagree with it!I always thought that the law of supply and demand was the one rule of economics that everyone was familiar with. Oh well, guess not.

Companies frequently increase prices through their own failure to anticipate demand. Many mistakes happened around Covid and now data centre requirements and the associated costs are falling on the consumer. These were issues that the industry failed to respond adequately to and in some cases they now choose to sell their product to the data centre owners.I always thought that the law of supply and demand was the one rule of economics that everyone was familiar with. Oh well, guess not.
Because they didn’t put the C1 or C1X modems in the 17 Pro series. We will see at next week’s keynote if they put the C2 modem in the 18 Pro series.Verizon sold the iPhone 16e, and currently sells the 17e and the Air.
Where is this idea coming from?
