Valid point, and don't take my response as a way of saying "get out of this thread". Viewpoints from all sides make this site great. I will say never makes sense to me when people who are on their way out / or not even part of an ecosystem, chime in on something that has nothing to do with their use, or devices. Clearly you are still interested in what is going on at Apple.

On the legal side, Is there any proof that Apple or Intel are colluding to steal information from Qualcomm, or, is it simply a legal tactic Qualcomm is using in their case against apple? Also, where is Apple charging more? For consumers, phones with Qualcomm cost exactly the same as Intel phones do. We also don't know what Apple has to pay Intel for their chips. For all we know they agreed to pay Intel the same prices.

With regards to modem speeds / benchmarks, You said you moved to the V30 for your daily driver from your 7, in a thread mainly covering modem speed differences between Intel and Qualcomm. I don't buy your claim that you don't care about those benchmarks, and it is absolutely fine if they are important to you.

We 100% agree about being in many ecosystems, Like you I daily drive Android and iOS, in addition to OS X, Linux, BSD, and Windows. I find it fun to be within all of these respective ecosystems, and, find some are better then others, for various reasons.

The reason why benchmark matters little in this situation is because I'm aware of the way android runs. I've also got ways through developer options should the need arise for it.

My biggest issue is not the processor. My device can be super fast but if I can't get data or calls in my own bedroom? That speed becomes irrelevant. It's like having a fast engine with a slipping transmission. Troublesome.

I think we miscommunicated. I care about data speed benchmarks, yes. It's been consistently lower on my 7 Plus. Could it be better on the 8/8+/X? Yes, it's highly possible. However I also wanted a device with band 71.

I'm merely pointing out how my experience has been. The Verizon model X seems to be in demand too. If not just for the Qualcomm but the simple fact that it works with three (4?) carriers. That's my biggest frustration with the fragmentation.

If they are paying Intel the same, why the big hassle? That isn't logical from the argument that Qualcomm is asking too much. On the proof of Intel getting Qualcomm information, they've already admitted that the engineers have access to both. Now it's not my place to agree or disagree on if they've committed any wrongdoing. That's for the courts and lawyers to lay out evidence upon. I do think if suddenly Intel has similar technology it's more than coincidence but that's conjecture.

This is all just my opinions. Two cents. I'm going to watch how this all plays out in the long run.

But can one buy the VZ X if you don't have a contract with them? I didn't think it was possible, so that limits purchases for many

The big deal is one phone can be used by ~200 million subscribers in the US and the other can be used by ~400 million

Valid points, and I totally misunderstood what benchmark you were talking to. I think I need more coffee!! ;) .

While the single core on my 7 absolutely destroys my Pixel 2, I haven't run into any situation where my Pixel 2 has any feeling of lag. So I agree on how Benchmarks (processor) can have little impact on daily use. Most of these phones will ramp up to using more cores if they hit any level of processor stress anyway.

Honestly, I have issues with Apple's side of the legal battle, as I do with some of their contests with Samsung. Legal system battles just bother me overall in the tech arena. They can sometimes cause limits in our devices (either side of the fence) depending on how things are ruled.

Why can't everyone just play nice? ;)

And thanks for the calm discussion, nice to see your viewpoints. Cheers!

In Apple retail stores, you can buy the verizon/ sprint version outright full price.

That's probably why more are being sold in Swappa. I'd assume this trend follows on other sites too but I can't be 100% sure on that.

You've got a device that can work on at least 3 (if not 4) carriers, versus one that works on only two.

Intel and Qualcomm aside, this is an obvious advantage for buying and resell value long term.

I decided to do a benchmark for grins on the actual processor!

It was nice chatting with you! Go enjoy a good cup of coffee like Tim Cook says you should.

So far no lag for me either thankfully.

7 Plus then V30. They both run apps well, no complaints on that.

Not sure if this was linked yet but on reddit they are talking about this

https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/79k7vr/iphone_x_qualcomm_vs_intel_battery_life_real/

I am picking up a 256 SG intel modem iPhone x and will compare it to my 256 SG Qualcomm (I got from target of all places yesterday at launch).
[doublepost=1509825959][/doublepost]The highlight is that the Qualcomm chip is using a smaller process (more transistors/efficiency), and they expect 30% better power consumption and overall better performance on the cell edge (between towers)

Please post your findings!

There’s no way there’s a 30% difference between the two. If they perform differently by much Apple will throttle one so they both fall in the same spec.

Good info. This will help a lot of people prove to Apple the Qualcomm is much faster and hopefully if enough research is done they will do something to close the performance gap with all the complaints they will get.

I have a question. Everyone saying Verizon sim free / unlocked model, does the Verizon model have a sim tray so you can use your T-Mobile or AT&T sim card in it? Or do you have to do something else to use your T-Mobile or AT&T service with it?

Yes, it does.

Did anything come to fruit yet? Very curious of the outcome, please do update us.

The following seems to be the initial conclusions:

Superior Download: Qualcomm

Superior Upload: Intel

Superior Ping: Tied (some here argue Qualcomm, although all these tests are extremely unscientific. My own experience in NYC shows Intel with the overall most stable and reliable ping. Qualcomm is up one test down the next.) For me intel wings this round based on overall stability.

Battery Life: Tied

Signal and Voice: Intel

And then there is this which might give t-mobile users and future AT&T EVS users a second thought about Qualcomm over intel... https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/t-mobile-evs-intel-only.2087399/#post-25445255

IMO Intel takes the prize this year taking all I’ve read and unscientificly tested into consideration. Trying to get another Intel to test the EVS this week but that may prove extremely difficult with my return window on the Qualcomm ending this Friday.
