Time to upgrade a 7. It has been a trusty phone for long time but now it is time for changeing it.
Intetested in a 12 but according to this forum the long time quality of the battery is ???
Do anyone know how the battery health is holding on for a new 12 today?
Is it still risk of fast battery degradation or is the battery of better quality today?

Battery life is what it is. The more you use the phone, the more often you have to charge it. The more you charge it, the faster it degrades. Like the brakes on your car, the battery cannot last the life of the phone, that's why it's called a consumable.

Tank you for your reply.
I know the battery has limited lifetime.
Serveral post in this forum indicates faster battery degradation than expected for the IPhone 12. Maybe because of bad battery quality when the model was released.
My question should be read, has the battery problems been solved and normal battery degradation is to be expected for this model?

The degradation is normal IMO. If you plan on using the phone for over 2 years of “normal use” you should expect your phone to undergo a battery replacement.

I've had my 12 Pro since launch and the battery is at 90% health. I would consider that to be pretty normal. I also use my phone more than the average person I would imagine and I charge it every night (in the least) with occasional early evening charges if I'm using maps or out for most of the day.

I don't think its something you'll have to be worried about. Although if it is a concern, spend the extra $100 and go with a 13 that has a longer battery life off the bat.

A 12 will hold battery life quite well.

My iPhone 12 pro is about two years old and I don’t use it all that much, but is now down to 88% if you go by what Apple tells me on their app. At first it didn’t go down hardly at all, then it began slowly tick away till it stopped at 88% and now it’s not moving down anymore for the last couple months. I don’t hold much credence with these apps that tell you the battery level too much. If it goes then I’ll get another battery from Apple or get another iPhone

Than you for your replies.
Seems I can expect long time battery behavior as any other IPhones.

My 12 mini is at 92%. I find that quite impressive considering I’m also a heavy user who frequently (fast)charges it several times a day.

12/12 pro series has a battery problem. Try the 11 pro, or if you have extra money go the 13 pro.
I don’t think it’s a battery problem. It’s more to do with the A14 being power hungry compared to the A15 which is far more efficient.

Although I have a 12 Mini, I would advise against purchasing any of the 12 series as the improvements in the 13 are considerable enough to justify the extra cost.

I am not going to give you generic Apple fanboy reply that battery life is depending on your usage and charging pattern bla bla bla. I will cut all bullcrap and come straight to the point:

Battery quality of iPhone 12 and 12 mini is objectively Crap with a capital C. Within 6 months of moderate use, my wife's iPhone 12 mini was down to 85% health and my iPhone 12 was down to 91%. Now after 11 months, her phone is down to 83% and mine is down to 88%. Apple says it's normal and there will be no free battery replacement unless battery health drops below 80%. Within few weeks, our warranty will be over and we will have to shell out around ₹11,000 ($142) for both iPhones. Apple has used inferior quality of batteries in 12 series iPhones that includes Pro models too. They want you to keep on replacing batteries every year and make a hefty side profit. They rely on the fact that some people have severe OCD about battery health. Some people get triggered just by seeing battery health drop below 90%. Me and my wife are in that category. Search about it on macrumors and you will get countless topics.
Mom's iPhone 8 purchased 3 years ago still has 88% health left. So that's that.

I’ve already read several threds about the IPhone 12 battery issue.
I was hoping that the issue had been sorted out so that a 12 today would turn out to be trusty phone for long time use.
That does not seems to be the case.
Thank you all for the replies. ?

My wife and I both have the 12 Mini. We were hoping for a 14 Mini but all the rumours tend to say there won't be one this year. If it is the end of the Mini line then I'll almost certainly get a 13 Mini, is it really that much of an improvement on the 12 Mini?

It’s mostly to do with the efficiency of the A15 chipset which means the battery will last longer. I have overcome this problem by purchasing a MagSafe battery pack for my 12 Mini. I think, all things being equal, there is very little difference between the 12 Mini and the 13 Mini. Other than battery issues, there is no reason to upgrade the 12 Mini because it’s a powerhouse which will last you a minimum of 4-5 more years. I plan on keeping mine for many years to come. I will be changing the battery early 2023 though because it’s already poor.

My launch date iPhone 12 Pro Max battery is currently at 86%. To be honest, I wish it was closer to 80 % because the battery life is pretty crap already and I would like to get it replaced for free under AppleCare+. I often have to charge it twice per day. In the beginning it would last me all day and I would still have around 40 % the next afternoon.

Had mine since April last year so just over 12 months old now. Used to get 28 hours and 7 hours screen on time, now it’s 22 hours and 4 to 5 hours screen on time. Battery health is now 90%. Use a 10 watt charger from my old iPad Air.
personally not impressed but my Samsung Galaxy S9 was a lot worse. Mines usually has 10-15% less battery than my other half’s Exynos S22 Ultra.

I just switched from an 8 Plus with a battery service warning to a new 12, and the 12's battery life is worse. It sounds like the 11 would have been a better choice.

I ended up buying a SE 2022. The IPhone 12 was attempting but the battery uncertainty and and the home button made me go for the SE.
I hope this phone will serve me as well as my old 7 did.

The battery on the 12 is the worst battery in any iPhone I’ve owned to date. Really hoping the 13 or 14 didn’t have/has this issue as I need to upgrade it this year. My battery health is down to 86% with less than 2 years use and I am regularly having to plug the phone in in the early evening for a boost.
