Been thinking about getting an AW but was wondering. Can I use any picture I want for a watch face? Like a Superman or Batman or anything or does Apple limit it to what they release?

Also can I have digital time, day of the week and weather on the face or even my activity?

Thanks

You can use custom photos, but you are (currently) extremely limited in the complications that you can add to custom faces... currently, you can only add a digital clock - no other complications are permitted.

The Photo watch face is very limited. All it will display is the date and time and nothing more. The other watch faces you cannot change the face itself but you can change the complications (date, weather etc).

That sucks. But when you say the photo watch face gives you the date is that including the day/month/year or just the date? I could live without the weather as long as I still have a weather app on the watch itself which updates in real time.

Also can I add digital time to an analog face?

The photo watch face displays digital time (5:42) and date like this THU 25.

You can add digital time to an analog face using the trick I posted here.

Sweet thanks. Looks like I'll be using custom photo face a lot now.

Thanks for the guide as it was the Mickey Mouse clock face I wanted to add a digital clock to. Now I know how.

You're welcome. Just don't forget when you are traveling to add a new world clock for the new location you are in otherwise the time will always display your home time zone time.

Not really a face question but I don't want to start a new thread.

I was wondering if I can turn quick view off? I want it to only turn on if I click a button to see what time it is. Not every time I move my wrist.

Thanks

If you like to use photo face you could point it to an album and every time you lift your wrist you will see different photo from that album, if that what you prefer.

This is what the photo face looks like.

Cool, any good sites for already made watch faces? Most sites I find have crappy ones or only have like 10.
Not that I know of, I just found pictures I like and just made the face myself. What are you thinking of? A Flash face?

Different things with the Flash being one of them. Most TV shows/movies/video games. With some nature pics but I mostly got those already.

Yes, there is a setting to turn off the wrist raise activation but that kind of defeats the purpose of it being a watch no?

Just google "custom Apple watch faces". There are a few sites out there.

I'm always raising my wrist/arm for work and don't want it turning on every second. Don't want to kill the battery. Easier to push the button when I need to see what time it is. Or if it's not as finicky as I think I may leave it on but heard it doesn't always work either.

Thanks for the site.

Have you actually tried the AW? It's designed to ignore simple raising of the wrist/arm and will turn on only when you rotate your wrist inward (e.g., to check the time).

Not yet. I've played around with them at the store but they are always built into the stand. I was just going off of my Fitbit which seemed to turn on every time I moved my wrist.

Plus I do a lot of writing on a white board and it can seem like I am raising my wrist as I am kinda sideways to the board so my students can see and I didn't want the watch to keep turning on when I do that. If the AW is better at quick glances than the Fitbit that will be great.

Back to custom faces, what's a good size for the AW? Want to start re-sizing some wallpaper's.

Use a 4:5 aspect ratio and crop your pics. The Photos app on the phone is good enough.

You can sort of pan & zoom a bit on the AW, too, then press both the crown and side button for a screenshot, which will be the correct size and a pretty small file.

Thanks for the site.

- It won't kill the battery (the only feature that remotely eats at the battery is the heart rate measuring)
- The glitchiness of the raise wrist was pretty much fixed in the latest WatchOS update.
- The screen comes on only when you raise AND twist your wrist as if you want to check the time. Otherwise you could raise and lower your arm all day and it wont turn on.
