I just spoke to my friend who works for AT&T regarding grandfathering in. Yes, current iPhone plans are getting grandfathered in, but once you upgrade to the 4G you must be on the new plan.

Other sources, reportedly including AT&T's official Facebook feed, confirm that your unlimited plan will still be grandfathered in even through an equipment upgrade.

No matter what anyone says, a small percentage of users will over go 2gb and even smaller percentage of users will use less than 200mb.

since AT&T has our stats and has years of data, they have determined that the majority of iphone users will consume MORE than 200mb. They know that 200mb for many will become a burden - constantly watching your data consumption, limiting yourself from using too much data...before you know it, you just jump over to the 2gb plan because it is more convenient. And on that plan, you will almost never reach the 2gb limit. Especially since those users already believe they don't consume that much data.

AT&T knows that the average user falls somewhere between the 500mb and 1gig range. But if they provide a plan in the middle, their 2gb plan will be ignored by most.

with that said, if you are constantly around wifi spots or rarely consume data and more importantly DO NOT see yourself consuming more data in the future, then the 200mb will work for you. Good luck with that because it's been my experience that the more my phone does, the more data I consume.

Now before anyone says, "you are wrong sal, I consume 8gb every month" or "you are wrong sal, I never reach 200mb on my plan" just so you know, you are NOT the majority. if you were, at&t wouldn't have picked those numbers(200mb/2Gb) for their plans.
