I really do wish Apple would get past this obsession with thinness.

The iPad itself is thin enough. Ditto the iPhone 5/5S, which almost feel flimsy (as does the MBA, for that matter).

Improve battery life and keep the same level of thin.

We all keep saying that, but then when you hold one of their new devices that are thinner than previous, they feel amazing....and the battery life has always been good enough for most. I'll always wait to pass final judgement.

Yeah, I think calling it the iPad Mini Air is kind of redundant. Just keep calling it the iPad mini. They can call the mid range iPad the iPad Air. And when the rumored 12.9" iPad comes out they can call it the iPad Pro. Done.

So far, each reduction in thickness has been welcome (to this user at least). And they don't sacrifice battery life to do it either! 10 hours of battery life (which, you can get better than Apple's 10) is pretty good for me.

I think a thinner Mini would be a really nice product, personally.

But just keep the name "iPad Mini" :)

Why is this questionable?

Look, there is nothing spectacular about the iPad. People seem to think its an engineering marvel when iPad's are made thinner.

When the iPad 2 came out everyone was all impressed about how thin they made it, yet the iPad 2 contained all the same components as an iPod Touch and the iPod touch was thinner. iPad's have a lot of space in them compared to what you find in an iPhone and iPod.

It stands to reason that iPad's should always be thinner than the iPhone. If the iPhone 6 is as thin or thinner than current generation iPad's then it stands to reason that next gen iPads will be thinner.

It's not an engineering marvel to reduce the thickness of something with like 200%-400% more volume than a smaller product that has to pack all the same components in it. Sure an iPad needs a larger battery because of the larger screen, but considering that an iPhone is mostly battery these days the iPad just has naturally more room for a larger battery without getting thicker.

The iPad is just an iPhone with a large screen, if they end up being thicker than an iPhone 6, this is actually just lazy industrial design.

I would be impressed if they could find that kind of thickness reduction. Just from a technological point of view.

The leather phone is back... I know this is a RUMOR site.... but do you have to throw every rumor at the wall and hope something true sticks?

I knew it was only a matter of time. I too would like more battery. However, bigger doesn't necessarily equal more. Maybe there is a diminishing return. It also may cost more for a bigger battery....which in turn the consumer ends up paying for.

I'd go for an iPad mini with 256GB. That's really about the only enhancement that would make me jump. 128GB does not hold my music collection, and I don't find the "cloud" to be an acceptable substitute. No matter whose cloud we're talking about.

Battery life on tablets is fine, as is. "Thin" is just compensation for wrapping a big honking case so that it no longer feels thin. Touch ID and better color would be nice, but probably not enough to make me upgrade.

I just don't understand the desire to have the thinnest product. If you keep thinning out your product but don't increase battery life at all, then what is the point? I would rather have a new iPad with the size and thickness of the first iPad but with tremendously better battery life.

You know there is a point were the "thinness" of a device would hinder it's actual use, such as bending in your hands or being awkwardly too thin or too light.

Over 25 million people in Q1 2014 seem to think the iPad is something special compared to other tablets.

Supposedly the replacement for the Moto X will have a leather option added (the X has wood options).

I hope both ipads get a 30% reduction! That would be awesome!

So new ipads:
30% reduction in size
2GB ram
12 hour battery life
A8 processor
Finger print reader

Thinner and lighter is what the mini needs to be. Now it is just a bit heavy. I will upgrade my family's three minis if this is the case.

If this is true Kuo was wrong. Earlier he said there would be no mini upgrade in 2014.

People always say "Oh I want a bigger battery and more storage" but don't realize that making the device thinner already costs more. Add in a bigger battery or additional storage that also costs more. So now the price has to go up on the device. It's not as simple as I want a bigger battery and more storage instead of a thinner device for the same cost.

That's a long name for a product! If it was a real rumor, Apple would approaching the "Samsung Galaxy S III" caliber of names...

I don't think there's actually anyting in the rumor that indicates that "iPad mini air" will be the actual name, it will simply be air-like in size.

Apple will have iPad mini (7.9"), iPad Air (9.7") and iPad Pro (~12"). I think that "iPad Air" is kind of a strange identifier for the mid-sized iPad, but if there is a bigger and smaller one, I belive it's a necessity.

How in the world are we going to keep these safe? Is it going to be sapphire front and back? Or else this thing will break very easily i suppose.

"While the sources of the rumor are given only as from the supply chain, the claim of a 30 percent thinner iPad mini seems to be an overly optimistic one."

...I'll say! That would be incredibly thin.

I was just hoping for a lighter mini with better display (as I've heard that the retina display on the mini, aside from having a high PPI, sucks).

Apple don't have to. First they put touch ID in iPad mini = another year of people buying. Then they make it slimmer = another year of same design and the people who just have to have and bought because of touch ID will upgrade to the slimmer.

now pay me for my analysis :D

I don't get People who keep complaining how Apple is obsessed with thinner & lighter. If battery life was decreasing, they may have a point...but it's not. Apple consistently increases battery life as their devices get thinner. So there really is nothing to complain about, And eventually there will be a point where they can't go thinner...so the whole thing tis a bit silly.

Dubbed the "iPad Pro," the larger model may not be released until 2015

I have an urgent need to swear at this point. Another year to wait? Please no.

If they do that I'll buy the 12" Samsung tablet instead. Fed up with always being 2 years behind everyone else on new screen sizes.
