I'm betting we see a larger screen. That seems to be the only complaint that I hear people say when talking about the iPhone.

Whole back case of phone will be made of liquid metal and that will be the battery,

Stuck onto that will be

4" screen

form factor will be of original iPhone/3g and due to size of liquid metal battery battery life will be 500hr standby

It will be the most environmentally energy conscious device the world has ever seen. Requiring charging for some users once a week.

the tech will move into other areas with apple being awarded the Nobel prize for saving earths resources :D

Will I win a prize? :)

Probably not. But it'll be called the iDontbeliveit as that's what everyone will say when looking at battery %

Some will add an f :)

Forget OS for a second - because this isn't a statement about OSes.

I now have a Skyrocket and the screen is 4.5". I don't find it at all "cumbersome" In fact I love the extra real estate. And I love my iPhone 4 - but now when I use it - everything looks tiny. Still a great device and naturally this shouldn't be anymore surprising as someone going from a 4 to a 3gs or from the new iPad to an older one re: screen readability. But I don't think a larger screen size for the iPhone is a bad idea at all.

For me - 3.5" is small enough now that it's a decent adjustment whenever I use the iPhone vs the Skyrocket.

You know, apart from incremental spec upgrades, I cannot fathom just what Apple can do to make their ios devices any better.

Sure, for the next iphone, we could see improvements such as LTE, faster processor, possibly larger screen, but I doubt we would be satisfied with this.

Improvements in iOS, where possible, is just as beneficial and significant as a hardware upgrade.

I think the only reason we saw a fall launch last year is because of the delay in iOS. Regardless, something tells me they will stick with the fall launch. Otherwise we would have seen a preview of iOS 6 at the iPad event, which we did not.

Also, I'm a bit confused by your last statement.

Fast typing sometimes creates problems :)

I meant to say "Perfect gift to others AND to yourself" :)

Not Perfect gift to others to yourself.

This is one of the reasons I moved to Android and grabbed a GS2. I wanted a bigger screen. I did at first think the screen may be too big, but its not. I love it and now cant go back to a smaller screen. Thats just my opinion and what works for me.

If you like a bigger screen then buy one of the phones that have a bigger screen. That's what free choice is all about. I'm perfectly happy with the size of the iPhone's screen.

Oddly enough, despite all this talk about Android giving customers more choices, there isn't any Android phone if you want the up-to-date processors and screens in an iPhone-sized display and/or aspect ratio. You have to go with a 4.3"+ screen size or get stuck with crappy build quality and speed.

It's nice to have larger content, and web pages, media such as photos and videos, and games would benefit from it greatly. You'd also be able to have more powerful hardware and a larger battery for better battery life. Does a 4.4 inch Android device actually have much more screen real estate than an iPhone 4? I don't think so, it's mostly just bigger.

I'd love to have a 4.6 inch iPhone or iPod touch. It's so much better having larger content, and the device would get even better battery life than it does now!

Apple's clearly working on a quad-core for the A6, and it'd simply be too hot in a 3.5 inch smartphone. I don't know what screen size they'll pick, but I do hope they come out with a 4.6 inch model, I'd love that size.

Regarding artwork, technically speaking if they used the original artwork it should look the same as it does on the original device, and if they used the @2x artwork, it should look similar to what it does on the iPhone 4 or 4S. I believe it looks worse because everything else looks so much better.

I think if you had a full screen app with a 480x320 image on it, running on a 3GS and 4 side by side, you'd not see a difference.

I should test that, actually :D

Ah, fair enough - good point then, you would have space for more hardware, that's true. I'd still prefer the 3.5 inch model, maybe one day they'll make various models like everyone else. Not seeming likely right now though.

Ooh, let me know if you do manage to test the non-retina artwork on a retina vs non-retina display, I'd be interested to know if it was just cos I was used to the new resolution. I swear the old apps really did look worse on the 4 though...

Just to keep anyone else from screaming at me....
I think Apple would make more money if they introduced a line of iPhones.
Like the laptops there should be three of them. 3.5", 4.0" and a 4.5"...
Fair enough ladies and gentlemen?

I do like the 3.5 inch model, it's just I think I'll like a larger model better, even though it's likely I won't be able to use it with one hand as I can my 4S.

It's not so much about having space for more hardware (battery aside, which of course will need more space) but being able to distribute the heat from the components better. It's a bit much to ask a thin 3.5 inch smartphone to handle a quad-core processor, at least I think. The iPhone 4S gets quite hot when gaming, but perhaps a quad-core A15 at 28nm and a single PowerVR 600 series will produce less heat then a dual-core Cortex A9 at 45nm and a SGX543MP2.

I too would like separate models. You only need two; a 3.5 inch smartphone, and a 4.5 inch smartphone. That covers the majority of everyone's needs.

I'm comparing a 320x480 on both, and it looks practically identical. It may be ever so slightly different if you look really close, but I think it's just our minds doing it to us :D:D

I don't understand why this has to be so difficult. Apple makes more than enough phones to offer them in 2 or 3 different screen sizes. Given the choice, I have wanted a larger screen. The only reason not to is to put it make it the main reason to upgrade a year from now. I have always felt like every year Apple addresses a couple of the biggest issues that have been driving people crazy, a couple extra goodies, and a new trick all while leaving a couple big issues for next year.
LTE will be fast enough, turn by turn, bigger screen. I can piggyback my ipad. I have a navigation app. I won't need a new iphone until it has a larger screen. I say this as someone who has had the 3G, the 3GS, the 4, and the 4S.

Right now, they have 18 different iPhone 4S's in the US, (White/Black, AT&T/Sprint/Verizon, and 16/32/64GB). Don't you think going to 54 models is a little insane? And that's not even including 6 iPhone 4s, and the one lonely iPhone 3GS.

They'd corner the market if they brought out a £300 model unlocked

At the moment kids are walking round with £200 iPod touches and £100 android phones in their pocket

Must all have been in my head! Woo! My new iPad should arrive on Monday or Tuesday, I'll probably then the same thing about iPad apps that haven't been updated! Not that I use anything other than Safari and mail much on the iPad...

For the most part... haha. Hopefully they won't look too bad :p

You need to grab yourself a few games then! Like Modern Combat 3, or Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy :D

That would cut a little too much into their massive profit margins. It is a big issue in countries that don't do contract subsidies though, where Samsung, ZTE, and Hauwei can easily win by flooding the market with affordable devices that are decent, as opposed to Apple's awesome, but ridiculously expensive device.
