I want to see iPhone support for the Apple Pencil.

Making sure you see those TikTok notifications is sooo much more important than driving and making sure that you (and any passengers) get to your destination safely.

You may have a tik tok addiction if that’s the first thing that came to mind, I’ve never installed that revolting app and never will.

There are notifications that can be seen while driving without having to interact and take your hands off the wheel, you’ll understand once you’re old enough to drive. Also, not everyone in a passenger vehicle is the driver, yet may still be using navigation, we do this all the time. It’s preposterous that simple things like this need to be constantly explained on a tech forum.

If you drive with your iPhone mounted, then why would you need that massive time display, taking up some valuable maps space? The way it looks and works right now is fine, IMO.

Apple could just add the notifications bar at the bottom, but the huge time display, flashlight & camera make no sense.
You mean you don't take pics of your car's dashboard when your phone is mounted? It's the latest TikTok and Instagram trend.... that's why the camera button is there.

This doesn't seem very useful when driving, as it makes the navigation more difficult to read at a glance while focusing on the road and adds the distraction of notifications. However, this seems like it would be extraordinarily useful if you are using Apple Maps for walking or public transport directions. Maybe a different experience would be provided for different transportation modes.

People ITT seemed forget that Transit and Walking directions also exist, not everyone drives.

I also wouldn’t want to be the one using the phone while driving, usually I have a co-pilot in the passenger seat interacting with it (if I can’t use Siri). This looks much better for my road trips. Sometimes you do need your flashlight and camera and don’t want to dismiss directions while you’re at a rest stop.

Whenever MacRumors says anything like “questionable” I’m gonna believe the leak now. Remember AirTags’ “based on a dubious leak”?

If you have a CarPlay, which is the way to travel, then this makes very little sense and is, actually, quite distracting.

Why would it be annoying?
Even in that case of car play I find it useful as a passenger can look at the it on the lock screen.
I personally would find it super useful for things like walking or in case it is not connected to car play. Even in car play useful as passenger. It should not be distracted to the driver as why are you looking at your phone? I know in my car my phone is tossed on the wireless charger face up but it is not like I am looking at the screen at all. It is just there plus if you tap the power button safe to say the screen is just turned off and Carplay keep chugging along.

I like it but the Flashlight & Camera icon needs to be removed. Why would you want to see Notifications while driving and using Apple Maps? That's a distraction being set in place. Do not Disturb/Safety first!

Exactly! These are redundant anyway. Flash light is already on control center and the camera can be accessed easily with a single swipe

Can we get Music app integration like on Google Maps? I want to see the current song playing and be able to go to the next track without having to leave Maps. Google nailed it with this - such a simple and useful feature. Seems like a no-brainer.
The workaround I use for this is to use the Control Center pulldown to get to the music controls, then swipe back up to dismiss and return to Maps. But I agree, a better integrated access would be nice.

But the screen never lock when you have navigation on. Unless you lock it yourself or not in navigation mode.

I'll have to check more closely to what I'm doing next time but I often want to jump into a podcast or other audio app and find it noticeably jarring when I swipe up to unlock and it stops and I have to do it again. Doesn't do that even with screen locked in non-navigation mode. Seems like it does that every time I want to go into an app.

You can also set to display auto lock to never when using maps.

I looked in maps settings and display settings and don't see that option.

Just please make it an option. I for one love the cleanliness of Maps and don’t want to have to get the lock screen cluttered with all that info at once. If I’m driving, I’m driving. And don’t need anything else but the directions on the screen.

That’s because the first swipe up is unlocking the screen (Face ID) and then the second swipe up is to actually get to the Home Screen.

This is similar to when the iPhone 7 had the double home button press to get to the middle instead of resting it on the home button (and triggering Touch ID automatically at the same time)

“Questionable Rumor”

Does that mean it came from Mark Gurman?
It's claimed by Analyst941
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has expressed doubt about Analyst941's claims and believes that some of the information is inaccurate. We'll know more about their accuracy in just under a month when Apple unveils ‌iOS 17‌, watchOS 10, and other updates at the June 5 WWDC keynote.
Neither loves the other. :D

This is such a good idea that I will be extremely sad if it isn't real.
Indeed! This also paves the way to potentially Cycling computing software to show sport related data on a Lock Screen !
Got some auto brightness changes via map API specifics (dim on straight aways yet only highlighting specific metrics: watt, in conjunction with WatchOS API heart rate & O2 absorption, upcoming elevation) and brightness much higher for corners etc.

Why do I need the camera and flashlight buttons to be visible when I'm driving and getting directions? Furthermore, why do I need to see 2 time clocks displayed (upper left corner and center) while I'm driving and getting directions? And if we include the time clock in the car, that's 3.

It may be more sensible for walking or public transport directions, when the camera/flashlight can still be useful to access.

I use it almost every night. With that said - the ability to customize them would be a welcome change.
For "night navigation" inside the house at night I've taken to a somewhat less jarring option than the flashlight. I point the screen away from my face and then double click the side button to activate Apple Pay. It immediately brings the screen up to 100% brightness and locks it there for a while as it waits for FaceID. I think it stays lit up for 30 seconds or so. It's definitely enough light to see by if your eyes are in "dark mode" but less intense than even the lowest flashlight setting. Not really suitable for outside, I reckon, but great for a trip to the bathroom or whatever.

Yeah, on foot/transit is the only scenario in which I'd lock the screen while navigating. In the car, the phone is mounted and charging, so it's always fully on.
