I see an anti-trust suit in the offing!

How? Why? On what grounds?

This wouldn't block you from using another browser.

(Once again, I'm NOT in favor of it, but the legal issues seem imaginary.)

For what? Apple can add a web browser to iTunes if they want to. It'd do nothing to stop you from using Firefox.

Bad idea, but no legal issues.

i agree with foreseeing legal issues, someone would sue claiming monopolistic operations.

still i don't buy the rumor...

I don't see this happening, but it would not totally surprise me if it did. Apple is known for their integration and it does seem logical for this to be the next step.

However, you would think they would spend their time on integrating the Mail, Calendar and Address Book applications first before they mess with iTunes and Safari!:)

How they can integrate those two and not integrate the most logical ones is beyond me!

NO.

What they should do is take the iTunes Store/App Store out of iTunes and put it all online as a website. Then make it so that apps/media downloaded from the store are seamlessly imported into iTunes (integrated into Safari and iTunes so that you don't even see it happening).

Actually, I could see this being what is actually happening and this rumor is just a warped version of it.

Safari is utter crap.

iTunes isn't much better.

I'm not sure how crap + crap would equal not crap.

Wow,

I thought this would be a good idea, and when I read through the posts, I see an almost unanimous "No!" response.

But check this out.

I thought it sounded like a good idea for these reasons:

1. iTunes navigation around is really bad right now. It's like a crippled web browser trying to get to a song you already have while checking out the iTunes store - flipping back and forth doesn't work well. iTunes needs tabbed browsing or something,

2. iTunes does way too many things right now. It's a mess. Why the heck am i synching my iPhone throught iTunes??? iPad too??? Those backup files are killing my Macbook Pro. Check it out - I have about 5 old iPods, and 3 iPhones, and an iPad, and every time I synch it wants to back up to a massive file in the library - which I have to delete just to have space on my machine. My description here is poor I know, but surely you guys can see that video podcasts, movies, iOS devices and other stuff is really making iTunes unusable. It needs some major overhaul, or maybe a merge with Safari to make the user interface better.

3. iTunes is a monster and needs a massive redesign. Maybe by sticking to some sort of "standards" all the iTunes stuff could be put into Safari in a way that doesn't clutter that world up as well.

Web browsing is very important, I realize that. Maybe it does deserve it's own specific focus, but I am open to the idea of merging and converging the media constructs - maybe into a Monster Safari.

Once it's done it might make sense to be that way guys.

Or maybe I have missed something really important. Anyone got any reasons why they don't like the idea?

And I thought they were concerned with Piracy ?!

Oh Well,

Thanks Apple for giving me a platform in which a simple plug-in will make it possible to share my entire Music library with who-ever I choose ! :)

It would seem this iTunes move to the cloud is just using IOS Devices to access your home computer.

Kinda like "ORB"

I'm beginning to think Apple knows that people want to be able to have control to do what they want with the things they buy and leave little backdoors for the Jailbreakers and hackers to open.

I do not think this'll happen. All it would do is screw up Safari, iTunes and Apple's public opinion. Thank god it's just a rumor though.

EDIT: Maybe though, Apple could release an optional plugin for Safari (through the Extension Gallery of course) to let us control iTunes from within Safari. That would be pretty cool.

Outlook does mail and calendar in 1 app. Did MS get sued for that? Of course not. This is the same thing.

They DID get in trouble for tying the OS to the web browser, but this rumor is nothing like that.

Horrible Idea

That would be horrible! I think they mean iTunes will allow you to view your music anywhere on the web as long as you have Safari. If the app goes away, how would you sync your iOS device with your computer? Also, how would you stream media to an Apple TV if you don't own an iOS device (like some people who like android better? Although, someone should take that picture in the article and make an icon out of it. That'd be really unique and cool!

What is the advantage to having your browser used anyway? I don't see how they can make money off it if. Do they get a small kickback every time I search with the built in Google Search Bar or something?

Oh god no! Please Apple! I love using Safari on my PC. But have moved to Spotify for music. Adding more bloat to an already bloated music player doesnt make it better.

I think Microsoft said the same thing when they integrated Internet Explorer into Windows, and look at all the trouble it caused them...

What a dumb rumor. Why would they take 2 of most memory intensive and worst performing apps and combine them? Not to mention iTunes currently is used for pretty much 100% local playback.

I think they just ****ed up and meant to say, iTunes will be moving into the cloud. Not leaving the desktop. Similar to iTunes Preview. iOS is evidence why Apple will never pursue web only apps. They prefer accessing the cloud with native apps. Whereas Google likes making the entire app in the cloud.
