ok, so I realize our numbers are small that rely on airplay but just find it bizarre there has not been one publication that has called google out, 2 weeks ago youtubetv dropped airplay support, completely broken out of sync audio. I can understand the mainstream media not picking this up but it is odd we have zero advocates

I can't say I care, but I have a question anyway... did they drop support for it or is it having audio sync issues? Those would seem to be mutually exclusive.

It worked until they updated their app over two weeks ago, that’s about all you will ever know when it relates to google, but yeah I get that only the people it affects care,

If it were a coding error it would be fixed by now imho, and no media have even asked the question so e are left to speculate

I could care less about what Google supports on their devices. I have a iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, a mac Mini iPhone and several Apple TVs. I have software on the Mac Mini to make it function as a Air Play receiver. As long as Apple continues to support the technology I'm happy. Google is irrelevant in my opinion.

I realize that some people are impacted by Google's decision and it stinks if people where using the feature but I would imagine it would be more likely to be discussed on a Android enthusiast forum rather than Apple enthusiast forums.

You fundamentally don’t understand the complaint then, this has nothing to do with android, it’s about Appletv and HomePod and apple’s decision to allow apps that don’t support airplay and googles decision not to support it..... and finally the lack of advocacy to call them out on it, It’s a substantial investment we make to randomly have features taken away

I understand fine. Apple is avoiding monopoly claims and Google is being Google.

Solution: stop using google products.

No one cares because there is a native You Tube app on the Apple TV and it works fine. Sounds like it's really only an issue for you. Good luck.

Wow. Some of you guys are really bringing out the worst in the MR forums. The OP has a valid complaint. Google Apps and services (YouTube, Google Play Music, Google Play Movies) not working BETWEEN APPLE DEVICES VIA AIRPLAY does kind of suck. Good for you that you don't use those apps (who the hell doesn't use YouTube) and/or have a native TV app. What if you're visiting a friend and want to quickly pipe something to the TV? Are you going to tell me or the OP that we should plunk down $35 for a Chromecast? It's noteworthy and MacRumors DID note when Netflix dropped support for AirPlay.

Thankyou, not sure where the hostility is coming from, youtubetv is one of the better cable replacement streaming services but it is a valid reason to switch to something else if they don’t fix this. Kinda sad though, stereo homepods are great for tv

No one is being hostile here. People have simply disagreed...

Use the youtube app on the Apple TV if you really want to. Airplay your iPad to the AppleTV and use youtube on it. Airplay a Mac to your AppleTV and play youtube from it.

You can’t, it’s broke, that’s what this thread is about, google disabled airplay support on the appletv youtubetv app, this is different than YouTube,, it’s an app like directv now, PlayStation vue , sling etc

Don't use it through the app. Use mirroring through the iPad itself to the Apple TV.

I just tested youtube from my 2nd Gen iPad Pro 12.9" and I was able to get a full screen image of the video by doing screen mirroring from iOS, not the app the full mirroring, to my Mac Mini using AirServer. I can test with a Apple TV tomorrow but I expect it should work the same way. BTW if you haven't tried it before AirServer is a fantastic piece of software.

When Google is practicing it's anti-consumer monopolistic spiteful practices you can work around their hurdles with the tools Apple provides.

The fact is, if you have an AppleTV you can get the YouTubeTV app directly on the AppleTV. You don't have to AirPlay anything, so it reality it doesn't make sense to support AirPlay in that app, anyway.

If there wasn't a YoutubeTV app for AppleTV then it would be worth being upset about.

There is a definite misunderstanding going on in this thread, sorry if I was not clear, an app on Appletv has to be coded to airplay audio to airplay speakers, 99% of them are, youtubetv app was three weeks ago but they updated their app and dropped airplay support so your only option now is to use the tv speakers

It’s airplay speaker support they broke, no issues with video or hdmi audio, only airplay speakers, if you try to airplay from a phone or iPad this does not work either, Apple will let you choose Appletv or HomePod but not both, even if you change settings on Appletv to output to HomePod it has a hard time connecting, sometime it will work, mostly you get the spinner

Interesting. That begs the question, can iOS airplay video to one destination and audio to another? If I understand you correctly the is the problem?

That would be a separate issue, this one has to do with the native youtubetv app that resides on Appletv, none of this has anything to do with streaming from a phone or iPad

If you can stream the iOS device then you can stream the app just not through the app. Try giving it a shot. :)

Nothing to do with iOS devices, this is Appletv and HomePod , I actually don’t expect people to understand that don’t have both I guess

I wanted to see if I could duplicate the issue you are reporting. I signed up for a free trial of YouTube TV (not YouTube, BTW) and installed it on my Apple TV 4K running tvOS beta 13. And what do ya know, yes, I can duplicate the problem you are reporting. The audio is out of sync when played on my HomePods. However, this is not Google dropping support for AirPlay. This is apparently a bug.

Have you reported this to Google? What version of tvOS are you seeing this bug on? What version of the Apple TV do you have?

So you’re trying to do this with an android device? Why are you complaining here then? Apple didn’t remove support, Google did. This isn’t Apple’s fault. Google just seems to be at a point where they think they don’t have to play nice.
