I bought that and I have it installed...its amazing! Quality is unbelievable! It was easy to install as well. I have a 2010 13" MBP with dual 250GB HDD's and 6GB's of RAM. I'm planning on putting an SSD in the main bay when I get the funds...I have a WD 1TB external USB 2.5" HDD but its the new model where there is pretty much no way to hook it up to a SATA link :mad:

thats the same one I bought.....great caddy holds it in place....I put the hdd in the optical and I dont have a problem. I guess it depends what drive you get.

I recommend everyone do this if they are looking for more space and a faster option.

Is that a Samsung 470? If so how has your experience been with it? Is the drive reliable in terms of having no crashes, freezing or hibernate/sleep issues? How's your boot up time? Sorry for the questions, just trying to compare it to my Vertex 3 60GB...

neenja I had that same macbook. That was the best one to have.....I miss it...silver keys were so much better.

Legion93...
I only had it abut a week so its to early to tell, bet so far this thing is amazing.
It is crazy fast. Boot up is 24-25 seconds. I do heavy photoshop work with multiple programs, safari and firefox windows while playing you tube and have yet to get a beach ball. No hiccups what so ever. I play with final cut pro for a bit and I was actually able to playback video to as before it would stop in the first 15 seconds and say I need to adjust my setting. No sleep or hibernating issues. One thing I noticed is the fans do run as much now....the highest i usually go to is 3500 rpm. All in all I'm happy with the samsung. If I had sata III. I would have gone to the 830.

How is the vertex 3?

Samsung sure wins for keeping the "beauty," inside the MBP!

The blue OWC I have in a MBP runs great, but the blue doesn't really match. ha-ha (not that it matters, ha, just saying).

How is the vertex 3?

Thanks for the info :) I've actually just ordered my new 13" MBP released couple of days ago. I'll install my Vertex 3 once it arrives. I'm curious if it will actually reach the 500/480 read and write speeds advertised as it uses SATA III in the main HDD bay of th MBP. I'm pretty sure it will have slighty higher speeds than the Samsung..

Right then ive uploaded a pic of my profilier for the SATA.

Am I right in thinking it is SATA III? as it says link speed is 3 gigabit?

Also how do you find out what SATA is in the optical bay?

No. Your 2010 MBP has a SATA II connection in the main drive bay. It is kind of confusing.

SATA II = 3Gbps
SATA III = 6Gbps

Would I be correct in thinking that it will also be a SATA II connection in the optical bay?

Yes. Only the 2011 MBPs support SATA III.

Also I was going to purchase this SSD http://www.ebuyer.com/264770-crucial-64gb-m4-ssd-ct064m4ssd2

What do people think?

It is a good SSD however it would also be wise to consider the Samsung 470, Intel 320, and the Vertex 3 (which currently has the highest read/write speeds). Samsung SSDs are reliable and have very few if not any issues in OSX operating system, most Intel owners are dissatisfied with theirs because the firmware is causing major issues (partly due to intel not using their own controllers). OCZ has one of the best customer support forums and constantly releases firmware updates that enhance and fix problems in their SSDs. The Vertex 3 also has aggressive garbage collection so there is no need for TRIM. However since your MBP uses SATA II it is not wise to get a SATA 3 SSD which would be pointless as you're going to get SATA 2 speeds. From experience the Intel X25-M G2 series was crazy fast in my 2010 13" MBP, no issues whatsoever. I'd consider that if I were you, or he Vertex 2.

Okay, so as promised I'm back with my post installation opinion. My OptiBay arrived a day early, so I was able to do this tonight. I took out the super drive and put my Intel X25-M (in case anyone was wondering which SSD I'm using) in the OptiBay, while leaving the stock HDD alone. After closing everything up and cloning my drive, I'm happy to report no problems so far. Sleep works fine and boot up is great. For the install, I used the iFixIt guide below to remove the SuperDrive and subsequently install the OptiBay. I found it more useful since some stuff is different inside the early 2011 13" MBP. But I did use the Lifehacker guide for the steps about CCC.
