PwnageTool first to create a custom ipsw > Restore in iTunes > Redsn0w to "hactiviate"

Will I still need to use Redsn0w if I use an inactive Rogers sim to complete the process before my cousin activate a Bell sim for it?

Sorry, I feel stupid for asking so many questions, but I am sending the phone via courier to my cousin, so I don't want him to be trying to frig around with it to get it working...

Try the inactive sim. AppleJuiced in his post said it will work.

No, you dont use redsnow and pwnage tool.
Just pwnage tool to create a custom 4.1 ipsw so you can maintain your unlockable baseband and then restore thru itunes to that JB ipsw.
If the phone is locked to Rogers any rogers sim even inactive will activate it.
But activating doesnt mean unlocking to use a Bell simcard hope you understand some of the basics at least.

But that is what I am trying to accomplish, is to have it unlocked to work on Bell....The procedure above won't do that? Or am I misinterpreting your last sentence..

if you restored via itunes you more than likely upgraded the baseband,,, go to settings > about, and scroll down to modem firemware; if its 5.14. then on the 3g you are out of luck regarding unlocking, at least at this time. An unlock is coming for 3g 5.14 but not released yet. If you are 5.13 the go here and follow the directions carefully...http://www.iclarified.com/tutorials/iphone/index.php

If the phone is not activated how can I tell the baseband all though I did update on iTunes so im sure it's messed up.

Ugh, you are right, it did update the baseband....Does anyone know how long roughly before the unlock update is released...

Is anyone familiar with DFU mode??
