I did. Problem is one would have to do that each time you open a .wmv which imo is a pita. So that would only solve the issue if one wanted to watch the same video over & over........

anyone else have any thoughts? any way to tell the OS to use certain programs to open ALL .wmv files w/ the same program???

Make sure you single-click the document icon in the Finder once to select it, then hit cmd-I to bring up the Get Info window. Set the program you'd like it to use in the 'Open with:' drop-down menu list. Then click on the 'Change All' button.

Afterwards, documents with the same filename extension (or file type?) will open with your chosen program, without needing to go through this process again.

We should not have to fix any thing or make any more hoops for us to jump thru. We need to ask Apple to fix the problem they created
QT 7 was so simple, if you had a vid on your desk top or in a folder
all you had to do was click on it and it would open and play.

I have all of the add on's and QT still does not work

So Apple you caused the problem, Now FIX IT !!!!!!!!

You realise right that apple have actually totally changed the whole API (infrastructure, and code base) for quicktime X. And as of yet, there are no supported plugins for quicktime X. Only Quicktime 7 works proficiently for the time being, because developers need to re-write codecs, flip4mac, perian, etc etc so that they A) work in 64bit and B) with quicktime X's new API. This kinda stuff is to be expected, if ya had read up you wouldnt of jumped right in, and bought it straight away, but waited a couple of x.x.0,1,2 for apple to sort emselves out, the whole OS infrastructure has been changed for crying out loud. You can however still install QT7.6 on your SL install, using the install DVD (its an optional install)

WTF r u guyz blathering about? QT 10 does so open supported media by clicking on the file in Finder. If not, try right-click & "open with".

Due to Windows Media Video (WMV) using proprietary Microsoft codecs, my suggestions are: 1) don't use it, or, 2) use VLC to convert to MP4 & watch that, or, 3) watch formats QT does not support with VLC.

These are a few of MANY available options, so please 4) stop whining :D

Flip 4 Mac Solution

This may be old news since I just joined this forum, but last night I got a pop-up saying my Flip 4 Mac was out of date. I downloaded the new one on the free side, and it fixed the issue I too had with Quicktime 10.0.

If you haven't explored Flip 4 Mac recently, it's worth a try.
