I will continue using Quicken for Mac 2007 until I am sure I get the bill pay and transaction syncing that I require. Quicken Essentials lacked those feature so it was useless for my needs.

Downloaded and installed Quicken 2015 yesterday.
Then I transferred and converted my Essentials file using the same file name in both versions. Disaster. Duplicate accounts now in both versions, plus names and account numbers crossed. Not able to update half of my accounts in either version even though user names & passwords are all correct. Some of the accounts that have updated are with the same bank as other accounts that won't update.
Tried restoring older backups to Essentials to no avail.
So now both Essentials and Quicken 2015 are unusable.
Mint recognizes them all passwords and so do the individual account web sites.

Very sorry to hear this as i know how frustrating this can be.

While I very much want to move from Quicken Home & Business to Quicken for Mac as I run a VM essentially only for Quicken I will not do so until a number of things fall into place including the conversion process being seamless.

Trouble is Mint is not capable of the annual "Reports" that Quicken has given me for the last several years.
Any advice welcome.
Phil

This is the second critical need I have before moving to Quicken for Mac...I run the reports annually at tax time to check and confirm my income tax filing and without it the process would take much longer.

I'm curious how Quicken compares to iBank. I've heard iBank is supposed to be awesome but it seems to be a lot more expensive.

$60+$40/yr for Direct Access. After three years (what you get with Quicken) you end up paying $180. With Quicken it's $75.

I think I tried iBank, along with a few others, years ago and felt they were a little clunky and less polished. Is that the case now? I also don't know if Direct Access is needed. I basically use this to track my Checking/Savings account and the few credit cards that should be paid off soon.

Actually, I track that mostly in Numbers and only track my Checking account in Quicken. Guess that was a waste of money.

I tried iBank and YNAB recently to see if I could make the switch. iBank seems clunky to me but functional. YNAB just doesn't do what I need. So, I went with Q2015.

If you want the same connectivity functionality as Quicken, you don't need to pay for Direct Access. iBank should do a better job of explaining that as you are definitely not the first to reach the conclusion you posted.

Direct Downloads/OFX is equivalent connectivity to what is in Quicken and that is free. Direct Access is something unique to iBank and it automatically updates in the background. I do not use it. I use Direct Access and with one click that connects to my accounts and downloads all transactions.

More information on the options: http://www.iggsoftware.com/ibank/connectivity.php

I don't think iBank is less polished than Quicken. For me the main issue is that after having used Quicken for years, I found iBank different enough to be frustrating for the first 2 or 3 months. Now that I have made it past the initial learning curve I really like it.

Multiple Windows?

Some one (else where) made reference to this version, Quicken 2015 Mac, running single window mode only.

Can someone here who purchased tell me if you can or cannot open separate windows?

Appreciated.

Yes, right click on account & select "open in new window".
Does so, but changes to that account in main window, however you can then change main window to whatever, & new window remains open in what you wanted.

Thanks, I am the kind of user that opens 3 or 4 accounts plus the overview window.

I don't care about iOS integration, so this upgrade means little, but I assume Essentials will go end of life rather quickly, so I'll wait a few patch releases and get 2015.

Quicken 2015 Crashed, unable to use! Totally locked out!

Caution, I'd stay away from Quicken 2015 for now! I've been a loyal user of their different versions since 2007. While they miss the boat on many things it's always managed my finances well. I had an issue setting up automatic downloads on Tue, 9/9/14 and contacted chat support. Since then I am stuck in a loop where the app will not open and it's rendered useless. I can't rollback to the earlier version either as I already updated transactions in 2015. Chat support tells me all I can do is wait for a more advanced tech to contact me by email. In the meantime, I can't use the app I just paid $70 for nor can I track my finances at all. It's outrageous that a company of that size expects you to just sit and wait, maybe, for some person to contact me by email? Really in this day and age?

Quicken 2015 Disaster

New to IMAC. Quicken user for 20 years. When my latest PC died i switched to IMAC 30 days ago. Tried my Quicken data on Ibank and Moneydance with no luck. All account balances were off and even after following instructions to set initial balance I  never got the proper balance. So, I purchased Quicken for Mac last week and began converting my files. Found out you have to download and convert files on a windows PC then import to Q for MAC. I attempted same and got an error msg from Quicken for Mac that the data was created by an outdated converter! UNABLE to import my years of quicken data even after 2 hour chat with Quicken product support. Anyone have any ideas how to get my quicken data on my IMAC?

I tried to convert from Quicken Essentials for Mac to Quicken 2015 for Mac but got into a big mess. Finally decided that I would start from scratch with the Quicken 2015 for Mac, creating a new file altogether. No conversions. I intend to run both Quicken Essentials and Quicken 2015 until the year end than, starting 1st January, I will go with Q2015 alone.
The conversion was a disaster. It even screwed up my existing data and I had to recover from a back-uo file.
My recommendation is start anew and accept the fact the conversion is more trouble than it is worth.
I definitely like Quicken 2015 better than Quicken Essentials, smoother & clearer although there are a couple of items that I think are better on Q. Essentials

Could anyone using Quicken 2015 check and see if "Aon Hewitt" is available in the financial institutions for 401K's? It isn't available in Essentials, and I am not interested in upgrading to 2015 if it isn't there....

Quicken for Windows had this on their supported list and the Mac version didn't. Hewitt and Intuit blamed each other, as I expected them to.

Long time Quicken user here as well. Only solution I found is to run Quicken for Windows under Windows in a virtual machine. It's an expensive solution if you don't need to run Windows for other things, but at least it works. I've been doing this for over 4 years now.

You'll have to run Quicken somewhere to export your data in a .qif file. Then there are Mac apps that will import the data. I have been using SeeFinance for three years now and like it much better than quicken for account tracking.

Although I completely agree, I do look forward to the day when I will no longer have to run a VM for BOTH Quicken and MS Office [as the Mac version of Excel is a mere shadow of its Windows version]!

I wish they'd just create an online version that stores everything in the cloud (like they did with Quickbooks Online)...this way people can access it on PC, Mac, and from anywhere. I like the thought of being able to access my data from home, work, etc.

I like the idea, but also worry about security in this day and age too...

Doesn't feel like many things online are truly secure ..

dual platform - on money manager

One of the reasons I guess people are attracted to quicken is that it pretends to be multiplatform. If you you want to run on both Windows and OS/X, it provides some ability to do that.

I solved this problem by switching to Moneydance. It's written in Java and works on OS/X and Windows with apparently the same (or highly similar) code. The UI is almost identical. It also does everything I could ever get Quicken to do for me, including reports, and auto downloads of bank a and credit card info. I haven't tried it, but it allegedly will work under Linux as well with the right Java Engine.

How accurate / easy is it for Moneydance to import and convert a Quicken for Windows data file?

Quicken to Moneydance

How accurate / easy is it for Moneydance to import and convert a Quicken for Windows data file?

It does support Quicken import, but it's been a few years since I did it so I can't speak to how well the latest version of Moneydance works. I can say that I first of all simplified by Quicken database as much as possible by reconciling everything and purging unnecessary information and accounts. The most important fields of bank accounts imported with reasonable fidelity, things like budget info needed to be redone.

Thank you...

Will wait another year to see how Quicken for Mac evolves...
