Yes, but do you think they will return and give us the old interface? In my professional work and at the film school, where I teach, we cannot discuss the work without the controller in the way?

Don't the keyboard controls work? (I'm still a few days away from installing this myself).

I've used QuickTime Player since it was called MoviePlayer and you could use the v2.5 player to get around the QuickTime Pro restrictions in v3.0. They made the "old" interface turn up for the first time in QuickTime 4.0, which to me is still the "new" chunky interface for the OS X era (though it's been tidied up a fair bit now), probably a reaction to all those RealPlayer and WMP interfaces.

If you still want an "old" interface, remember that QuickTime Player has always let you choose an interface ("Controller Type") anyway ... "None" is probably close to what we're getting now with QTX, and if you want the original interface that looks like a QuickTime plug-in on your web browser, just use any number of other apps that have a QuickTime player built into them.

"BTV" comes to mind. It's a tough, simple variation on QuickTime Player, and even lets you do a couple of extra things like set an arbitrary playback frame rate. You can cut / copy / paste videos, watch them full-screen, etc, and nobody ever asked you "did you pay for Pro?!?"

Frankly I never understood all the whinging about QT Pro. I guess it was just Windows QT users?

CK.

They work, but of course not for "trimming" (sigh), you have to trim with your mouse, which is very precise. Not.

I've used Macs since System 7. And if you don't understand the whinging about QT Pro, then you've never really used it.

While those other things mentioned on this thread annoy me, I guess in some basic computing universe I can kind of understand. What I don't understand is that I can't move that annoying controller bar out of the way of the video without using full screen! I thought it would disappear if I moved the mouse away or let it sit, but nope. Why would anyone want to watch a partially obscured film??

my gripe is the codecs as stated earlier. since moving to mac in 07 qt is my 1 disappointment. i have been ripping my movies to mpeg2 with ac3 audio. QT is the only one not to play it. i have to use vlc, no biggie, but would love to keep everything apple on here and also be able to watch movies using front row.

was really hoping qtx would come through. and now even qt7 doesnt play them. before it would at least show video, now...nada

Has nobody ever told you about Perian??

That’s just simply not true. I’m watching a video right now, the controls faded away a few seconds after I moved the mouse away from them.

i have tried perian. doesn't work. it doesn't get sound working. i never used the pass through to my receiver so not sure there. just want to stream movies to the laptop, not use it in my home theater.

Having tried to properly use QuickTime, I just can't hack it.

I watch things in window mode sometimes, and I find it weird it not having any top unless you move the cursor over, which causes the top bit to cover part of the media.

Also, I go frame-by-frame for analysing golf swings.

QuickTime 7 it is for me. QuickTime X really isn't ready for people to use.
