Look for either ATI Displays software, or something called ATI Rom Xtender. I remember that I needed the latter extension when running the retail 9800 on my Mystic, or else it had the same general issues that you're having. I think that the Displays software supplies this extension.

I found some info here- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1206116

It's for the 9600, but it also applies to the 9800.

Already gave that a try, too. Still no luck :(

im pretty positive this is a Genuine Mac card

however its of the rarer 256MB Variant hence why you dont see many references to it

since it has a full ROM it should not need any extra software for OS X 10.4.11/10.5.8 to function with it

however you can try install the ATI 4.5.7 displays software https://www.amd.com/en/support/grap...ac-series/radeon-9800-pro-mac-special-edition

Tried that too several times per machine, still doing the same thing. Everything is pointing to be a genuine card, just the ROM was a bit confusing as a few other users with the same 256MB card have the different ROM versions mentioned in one of my earlier posts. I just don't think this one was meant to be.
