Are there any radio apps that play UK stations WITHOUT the iPhone nearby??

You could try the Radioplayer app for iPhone and Watch. If the Watch is connected to a known Wi-fi network it should work. The app is free so worth a try.

Thanks but it doesn't load if the app isn't running on iPhone.

Apparently there are no apps that allow music streaming.
