I just can't comprehend why people don't order through apple.

My funds weren't available on pre-sale day to buy the phone. And even if they were, a lot of people were not able to get through, and some people's orders have flat-out been cancelled to no fault of their own.

For Apple reservations, there is no Apple store in my area.

Those are just a few reasons.

I just can't comprehend why people don't order through apple.

Because after 8 hours of trying (and failing) some of us had to find other routes to go to try and get one. I used AT&T, which was as far as I was willing to stray. It was pretty predictable that the stock for the 3rd party vendors (Best Buy, Radio Shack, Walmart) would be low...at best.

I didn't even bother with Best Buy much less "The Shack" once I couldn't pre-order from Apple. It makes almost zero sense why Apple will allocate a lot of iPhone 4's to Radio Shack on iDay as they can sell it themselves. Good luck to you and camping is probably the only way to go now...

I think some people may be going to Radio Shack, because you can trade in your old iPhone for a prettty decent amount. Though I'm waiting a month or two (was waiting for reviews first), I plan on doing the same thing, going to RS, trade in my iPhone 3G for $100+ dollars, and then get my iPhone4. May do it at Best Buy instead, haven't decided yet. May go the Craig's List route.

As much as I hate Radio Shack, I can't blame them too much in this situation.

They were likely told a certain number of units they could estimate getting on launch day. When preorder sales went through the roof, Apple (understandably) made sure they took care of their company stores and AT&T preorders.

Stores lower on the Apple distribution food chain were left to have scraps.

I mean this thing was 10 times bigger than last year. They would have literally had to delay launch day 2 weeks to be able to meet day 1 demand.

I have a phone on hold for me at Radio Shack. I put my name on the list (for free) and they told me they'd call me. They called me yesterday, and while they didn't have a 16gig for me, they offered me a 32 gig which I took.
I also had a reservation at an Apple store (insurance against radio shack dropping the ball) and now after work, I'm heading to the apple store with my girl friend to transfer my reserved phone to her.
It totally makes sense that 3rd parties would get fewer, and so far as I understand, the process at Radio Shack was free, so it's not like you really loose anything.
And of course, lets not get too upset about any of this, after all it is just a cell phone, and not really something any of us need.I mean, only 20 years ago, cell phones cost more than they do now and were the size of your arm, and they only made phone calls, Now we have a camera/computer/cell phone that fits in our pocket and we complain that we can't get it right away. I mean it sucks, but in the grand scheme of things, it isn't that important.
I pretty much agree with this guy.

Agreed , my 3GS will bring $200 and I don't have to deal with selling it , just trade 1 for the other.

Exactly , can't blame RS for Apple not sending them.

And you can't blame Apple either for taking care of their own , first !
