Okay sorry if I sound like an idiot but I just want to make sure I understand this.

I can trade my 32gb 3GS in to radioshack for $200 and then I can use the $200 to buy an iPhone 4? Do I have to add another 2 years to my contract or am I simply trading in my 3Gs for an iPhone 4?

How much is a trade-in worth, dammit?

I've read all of these articles and press releases and I texted AT&T and I STILL don't know how much I will get for trading in a 3G iPhone. All it says is "you're eligible for an upgrade" whoopee-friggin-do. Tell me something I don't know.

So does this mean that I can walk in on the 24th with my 32GB 3GS and walk out with a 32GB iPhone 4 for $99.00. Will this be nationwide? I can't find anything on the Radio Shack website about this.
I was going to skip the iPhone 4 but if I can get it for $99 I'll do it.

You can do exactly that. I've called my local RadioShack and they've confirmed it. They WERE kinda secretive about it on the phone, like they didn't think anyone would know about it. And by it not being on the site and all. I think that they wanted to keep it a secret or something and get people to buy them without trading in. And like you, I was going to skip it because of the lack of a 64 GB option. But if I can trade it off and only pay $100 for a new iPhone I'm on the wagon. It is, after all, a significant upgrade from the 3GS.

hmm... i was originally going to skip the iphone 4, but if i they're offering a no hassle trade in for my 3gs that changes things.

I called my local Radio Shack and they confirmed that they are participating in the trade-in so I think I'll do it. I'm going to stop by today after work to get on the request list.
Now, my plan is to walk in, hand over my 3GS and walk out with an iPhone 4.
What do I do about all the info that is on my 3GS. I mean for security purposes. I know it will all be synced onto the 4 but up until I hand it over I will be using the 3GS.

Also, will the iPhone 4 activation be handled the same as the 3GS? I pre-ordered that from Apple and merely had to activate it through iTunes when it arrived. I assume I'll just take the 4 home, activate it and I'll be good to go?

Hmm....Radio Shack's latest tweet says:

"iPhone4 requests have ended due to overwhelming customer response. More launch details to come"

I actually ran out of patience after an hour this morning for the Apple Store Online to cooperate. I went to my local Radio Shack and pre ordered there. $0 down and they actually said they would be receiving the White one. I ordered black just to be safe. Took awhile for Radio Shack's severs to process the order even though they don't need any connections to ATT's servers until launch day. The manager said he would open up at 6am for the launch.:)

I guess you got lucky. I stopped by my local store after work and they guy knew about the trade-in but knew nothing about preorders or lists to get on. He didn't even know what time they would be open on release day. 6:00 am would be great for me but somehow I doubt that will happen here.

Good luck...I got the same story from my radio crap shack...gave them all my info only to find put 2 days later they couldn't connect either and therefore no phone for me. Realized there is a reason it's radio "shack" instead of radio kingdom or radio mansion.

the shack rules

Received a call from my local shack on Thursday (7/8/10) informing me that they had a iphone4 for me (16 mg/$199). I was in the shop within the hour. Received $100 credit for my 2 year old 3G and $20 gift card. Phone was activated and entire process completed in less than 20 minutes, more like 15. Eighty bucks for the new iphone4; I suspect a new battery would have been at least $50.
