RadioShack is highway robery. BestBuy has a better value for trade in at $289 for the 32GB 3GS with a BestBuy gift card (which in turn can be used for iPhone 4) or lesser pay if you opt a Mail-In check.

I just checked BestBuy's trade in program and it is now only offering $161 as a BB gift card.

eBay can fetch you for a 3GS 32GB (either color) that is used + unlocked + jailbroken more or less $375 all the way to $450. Less for the 16GB.

I don't think you read the Best Buy trade in value correctly. You don't get $289 for a used 32GB 3GS.

You have a choice between these two options for a 32 GB 3GS:

Gift Card Value: $170.00
or
Mail Check Value: $111.00

It's not $170 + $111..... it's either or.

So Radioshack's deal is better than Best Buy's.

I can't do the math on the people who got a 2yr upgrade or new contract on a 3GS. The launch date was June 19th 2009 + 2yr contract = June 2011 or later correct? So what's with the people who have a 3GS and an upgrade date within 2010 that even allowed AT&T to bump you up to now? I'm lost.

On topic, my friends would call me racist because I'd tell them that the girl in the story must be black. I have stupid friends. Or they've just been convinced color doesn't exist.

I think that AT&T is beyond math.;)

I bought my 3GS on launch day, and I'm eligible already. I think it has something to do with the fact that I didn't have a 3G before the 3GS..... I had the 1st gen, which I bought outright (there was no subsidy on it). I think that if I had a 3G, I wouldn't be eligible for the $199-299 discount price so soon.

You can trade it in At best buy they will give you close to 350 in store credit or 225 check. Do store credit and get the 32GB will even cover tax.

I hope this will be the case for me next year when I go to buy Iphone 5. I skipped the 3gs so I would be sure to have upgrade eligibility for this phone, and to be perfectly honest, am a little P.O'd that basically everyone is eligible. My wife and I both have iphones, and I will be upgrading both but had I known that ATT was basically throwing everyones contract out the window, would have bought two 3gs phones and would have much better resale values with them now as well. Anyone else in my situation feel the same?
No offense to you gs owners who are getting a VERY early upgrade but dont you agree that it kinda stinks for the people who waited with the 3g?

Are all you guys waiting to get the new iPhone 4 running and activated, then turning around and selling your used one on eBay? Like...how does that work? Do I get a new SIM card with my new phone? If so, do I sell my 3GS with the old SIM card after formatting everything?

I'm kinda lost on this whole upgrade thing. I became an iPhone (and ATT) user last year, June 2009, when I bought my 3GS. By sending the *639#, I get a message that says "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

So, does this mean if I buy the iPhone 4 16gig, that will cost me $200 + $18 upgrade fee? And then I can turn around and sell my used, ATT, NOT unlocked, NOT jailbroken iPhone 16gig 3GS on eBay for like $300?

So basically I'd be getting an iPhone 4 for free, and also making about a $100 profit? Why wouldn't anyone want to do this? It just seems too easy or am I missing something?

So if we wait 'till OS4 comes out and the associated jailbreaks and unlocks, I can put my mint-condition 16GB 3GS unlocked on eBay and get $400 or so for it, then turn around and pay the $400 early-upgrade pricing (based on my contract) for a 16GB 4 and break even? Am I missing something?

RE: Ebay

I sold my iPhone 3GS 16 on eBay for $380 with free shipping.

$380 price.
-$20 credit card fee
-$15 shipping w insurance
-$35 final value fee

=$330 in my pocket.

Somebody gets a better deal on Craigslist at that price...

This was a few weeks ago, I'm not sure is prices have gone down since.

It's always fun to meet up on Dallas craigslist. True story: once I bought a calculator used on CL. A year later, I saw an ad up for a Blackberry Bold I wanted so I emailed the seller and offered a trade for 3G. When I met up....it was the same girl! She was hot too! I wonder what the odds are of that...

RadioShack will then turn around and sell them on eBay and CL lol.

last year I sold my 3G on eBay THREE times before getting money. The first two were fraudulent, one even marked it as "paid" when they never did, hoping I would ship it.

For me, skipping that hassle might be worth it.

I've steered clear of eBay for that reason alone. I've sold on CL numerous times though and I much prefer face-to-face contact. But for the ease of what RadioShack is offering, I'd go that route.

You get a new sim, but keep the old one from the old phone. It goes with your account, not the phone.

If your monthly bill is over $100, you qualify for an upgrade after 18 months.

Raise your hand if America offers unlocked iPhones at any Telco, within the US.

Store Open - Punch Line Is White Unavailable For Pre-Order Nor In-Store Pickup

Apple store down... waiting to pre-order. Maybe something else will launch with that. http://store.apple.com/
:apple::rolleyes::p
Store Open - Punch Line Is White Unavailable For Pre-Order Nor In-Store Pickup. So if you want a White iPhone 4, we have to sit on the sideline while all the black iPhone orders go first.

are iphone 3GS's really going for $450 on ebay? that is pretty insane.

this is a year-old device that originally cost..what..599?
