If Apple.com, Amazon, and just about every other electronics retailers can ship accessories anywhere in the USA for free.... why do we need ANOTHER retailer?

Some people would rather walk into a store and walk out with what they wanted. Rather than waiting for it.

Hey, it's only 5 miles away, versus 15, for Best Buy, and 40 for Apple. I'll take it.

For sure. It's almost 3 hours to best buy for me.

Because sometimes you need something right now and you have no Apple store etc nearby.

No one is forcing you to shop there so don't

I bought my 4S at Radio Shack in January because it was about 7.30 at night, too far to drive to BestBuy and I was working. Had very little time so Radio Shack was the only play where I could buy it and get back to work in a short time.

Radio Shack is an excellent place for computers and peripherals. Very reasonably priced and easy to set up and use.

Though, the computers are only Black-and-White capable, they do come with a monitor and a cassette recorder for storing data. TRS-80's are cheaper and a much better value than Apple.

Really, would you buy a computer from a company named after a fruit?

;)

Hey, Radio Shack was the first place I knew that sold a portable hand held computer back in the 80s. I think it sold for $149 or so, and could run basic. Mine got stolen out of my car and I went right back back and bought another one.

I can't believe the "Shack" is still in business either. The "Technology Store" offerings, with the exception of some phones, always look like the remnants of a picked over garage sale.

By US only, you mean the US as we'll as Europe, South America and Africa?

And if course it's news, if your in need of an accessorie, and there isn't an Apple Store, staples, best buy ect. You can go there to get it.

You cared enough to comment .

Yes, I cared enough to comment about the irrelevance of it - next time they should publish on page 2 (or 3, if one exists outside of April Fools' Day).

And no, there are no RS retail chains outside the US - just distributors of their products.

Are you aware that RadioShack already sells the iPhone? iPhone sales haven't exactly been nose-diving due to this increased access.

I've never understood this holier-than-thou mentality. What's wrong with people buying Apple products in RadioShack stores, stores that might actually be in their city??? Apple Stores aren't even in every state...

I've just had crappy experiences at Radio Shack. I don't go there. I'd go to BestBuy or FutureShop or even Walmart before I went there.

Let Walmart carry these accessories as well and people would go there before they went to Radio Shack too.

I know a lot of people have their nerd roots deep in RadioShack, so I'm sorry in advance

Radioshack is a bloated waste of space, its inventory is the most diluted and generic array of parts of peices that no one would ever want to buy.

I really don't know how their still in business. Their business model is so decayed and old you can see right through it. Every time I go into my local Radioshack, its a chore to find whatever I want because there is no clear....'areas' of interest.

They DIDN't have ****ING SATA cables for christs sake. I could go to Whole Foods and buy a Sata cable (organic).

They need to seriously look at themselves and do a overhaul of the brand because unless I need walkie talkies or cell phone cases, I'll keep clear.

Some people don't want to wait. Say your Magic Mouse or Trackpad broke, and there was a RadioShack or a Bestbuy nearby, would you rather pay for it on Amazon or Apple and have to wait possibly days depending what time you ordered, risk it getting lost in the mail? Or drive to the store and get it there and then?

I've had this happen twice with iPad / VGA adapters before presentations. Happily there was a RadioShack nearby and I could pop in to grab one right then. Hasn't been an issue with keyboards or trackpads, but convenience is rarely a bad thing.

Get it all at Buy 'n Large!

Radio Shack has their own brands, but those brands are not held in high esteem. They're also expensive when compared to online alternatives. The parts racks seem to be going the way of the tube testers, since there aren't many people that repair electronics anymore.

If they had nourished a great brand image and made great products like Sony or Apple, things would be very different. I worked for them in college and could never convince an audiophile to buy their products. Most of the customers came in for a free battery and left.

I went to a RadioShack about 2 months ago and was pleasantly surprised to see they still carried Forrest Mims, III's electronics notebooks. Brought back some great memories.

Oh, that is wonderful! Whole Foods will be carrying Apple products. Even vegan Steve Jobs couldn't get Mac accessories into Whole Foods. Can't wait! Tim Cook is a master. Maybe his last name confused the management of Whole Foods?

But, I am perplexed: didn't Green Peace say Apple's weren't organic?

Wow! The pent up hate for RS here is astounding. I admit I don't have much use for the store but obviously people do shop there or they'd be closing those underperforming stores. Gotta wonder if these people's real target is RS or if they are letting out other, more personal in nature, frustrations on RS.

It's probably the same people that hated on Walmart for selling the iPhone/iPad. They feel it's beneath them because it's not an Apple store.

It amazes me this even makes news on an Apple site.

We used to have Tandy stores here in the UK years ago which were RadioShack and were allot better than the modern day equivalent Maplins which are more like giant toy shops these days.

RadioShack to me means cycling theses days ;) I'll stick to buying Apple from Apple :)

Awesome news for the five people who still shop there.

Exactly. They have 7,000 stores nationwide, but at any moment I bet there are no more than 5 of those stores with actual customers inside.

I've set foot in Radio Shack in desperation three times in the past two years, looking for the types of things - small electronic components - that Radio Shack used to be known for carrying. Instead, they had a salesman wanting to sell me a new cell phone and some radio control toys, but little to no electronic component parts. Ended up going online. Anyway, the point is, when I went in (to three different Shacks) the salesman seemed to have just woken up, and there were never any other customers there (or vehicles in the parking lot).

I'm frankly amazed they are still in business.

The last time I saw another customer in Radio Shack was about eight years ago on a Black Friday sale where they had DVD players for something like $20.

I will never buy anything from radioshack unless walmart, best buy, and every single other option in my region is closed. Seriously, though, they do such high pressure sales on the customer to get the more expensive items and protection plans.

I bought the iPhone 5 there because it was the only one I could find last October, and they had one left. And I got the 2 year $50 replacement Applecare+ plan too. But the whole time they would not lay off trying to get me to buy an Otterbox. They would literally try to guilt trip me. This includes giving me the whole "Wow I can't believe you would buy a $500 piece of electronics and not protect it, you are nuts!" and basically doing everything they could to make me feel like a jackass for not buying the case. I finally said "LISTEN LADY I BOUGHT THE PROTECTION PLAN FOR IT... I GOT THIS BRAND NEW PRETTY PHONE AND I DON'T WANT TO RUIN IT WITH AN UGLY CASE. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THOSE OTTERBOXES COST? $60. YOU KNOW WHAT IT WOULD COST ME TO GET A NEW PHONE IF I WALKED OUTSIDE AND THREW THIS ONE INTO TRAFFIC? $50. YOU ARE NOT MUCH OF A SALESPERSON, YOU JUST HAVE THE ONLY IPHONE IN TOWN." She then tried to transfer everything from my old phone to my new one but had no idea what she was doing, and even though it didn't work I pretended like it did so I could leave. I had the backup on my computer at home anyways.

When I went there a few months ago to buy earbuds (mine broke in the car door on the way to the gym, and radioshack was the only option close by). They did the same thing, this time at a different location. They acted like I was the biggest dumbass in town because I didn't buy a protection plan for my $15 earbuds.

I know that these high pressure used-car-salesmen type deals are probably their business model (are they paid on commission?), but I swear that the level of uncomfortableness it sets for the customer probably loses more business than it gains. Most of the crowed fifty years and younger (I'm 24) know as much as or more about the product they walk into radioshack to buy than the salespeople. Don't treat us like we're idiots. The only time I can really see your sales tactics working are on the senior citizen crowd, and I call that "taking advantage" more than anything else. You guys did it to my 60 year old dad.

I believe they are paid commission.

I've never been hassled into buying extra; I just say no and they let it go.

*shrugs*
