My sister's house is on a new development and her back garden looks out onto a 'flood defense'. It's a large dip in the landscape which has a little water in it most of the time but could take a heck of a lot more.
Cool. Unfortunately, it looks like the only 'flood defence' we're getting around here is the advice to tile our living rooms up to waist height.

Spotted that earlier but was more bothered by the fact that the Eye appears to be more buoyant than the buildings around it...
At least it'll give the tourists something to do while the place dries out – although getting there might be an issue, as I expect there might be delays on the Tube.

Up in Northern California I think it's been cooler than usual. Doesn't usually get overcast in summer ... at least not that I remember. And there was a day where it was the first time it rained on that day in over a century or something like that. It lasted not even 3 minutes or something like that. Definitely one of the drier years though.

Did have record (high) temperatures though on a few other days. Strange stuff, to say the least.
