Most if not all ram comes with a lifetime warranty also I can count on one finger the amount of ram failures reported anywhere, if you want to waste your money on expensive crucial or OWC ram be my guest, I got 24gb of Kingston value ram for my 2012 Mac Pro...if it fails i will send it back to Kingston....but it won't

But problems with Crucial

First, I used the Crucial Memory Advisor Tool and drilled into the iMac, 3.4GHz, i7 Quad-Core (late 2012).

Second, Crucial is guaranteed-compatible.

I live in Thailand and have tried to order RAM from Crucial 4 times. Each time the order was 'pending' ( for up to 1 week!!). I've waited 12 days and still no. It seems that the only method of payment is Paypal, but if you live outside the US and certain other countries, your address cannot be verified. On the last occasion ( yesterday) I phoned and was told the order had gone through and would be shipped yesterday. This morning it had been cancelled for the fourth time. Another phone call to Crucial (Thank you Skype) got essentially a blank refusal and no explanation as to why the orders are cancelled. Paypal phoned and now I understand.
I ordered from OWC, while the price is higher (both companies have put their prices up!) the shipping cost is lower and I could order directly and charge it to my credit card- no hassle and the total cost is lower. So beware if you live outside certain favoured countries. Thailand certainly isn't one of them!

Is it true that prices have gone up in the last 2 weeks?

Waiting till I get mine and the new year to order ram.

I remember when I looked a few weeks ago it was like 74.00 or something like that and now it is at 81.

When running a stock 2 x 4 gig memory chip in the new iMac, can you put 2 x 8 gig memory chips next to it?

I know in PCs, it varies but if you did the above, will the processory recognize the full 24 gigs?

I've just ordered 2*8 Gig memory from Crucial for my imminent new iMac 27" with the standard 8 Gig. There are two spare slots and adding the crucial RAM will take the machine to 24Gig and that is fine and it works no problem in that configuration I am told by the man in the Apple store.

Its similar to what I have in my current early 2007 iMac Core Two Duo... this is going to be quite some upgrade! :D

i dont really understand much when choosing a specific Ram cards..

i wanna upgrade myself, the new 27 inch imac when i get it.

what should i know when choosing? i see i have a choice of pins, speed and more.

i'll be buying 8x2 16gb

They once replaced an expensive pair of running shoes that UPS had "misplaced" on their dime. They've more than earned the Prime account I have through there.

Ended up going with:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008LTBJFW/ref=ox_ya_os_product

Ordered 2 sets to upgrade to 32GB.

To do the same thing, Apple wanted an extra $600 to replaced the two 4GB it came with an upgrade to a full 32GB. I'll go ahead and do it myself for 25% of that price.

Thanks for your help!

I just ordered my 2 sets of these as well. Thanks for the post.

I talked to Crucial this am and the most I could go is 16 good thing I called they were very helpful and research it with apple serial numbers.

You could begin by using the Memory Adviser Tool at crucial.com.

That will give you bread crumbs as to what you're looking for in the way of specifications.

If you are indeed waiting on a late 2012 iMac, you're going to be installing 204-PIN SODIMM memory.

Crucial & OWC maybe cheaper but wouldn't the high latency be a concern?
From what I read, CL11s are prone to problems and may cause kernel panics.

Ideally, CL9 is recommanded but is more expensive. Best I could find was Kingston HyperX PnP. Are there any other brands out there worth checking out?

I'm looking for the same... but looks like hyperx are the only CL9 for iMac

Mixing Crucial Ram with already installed 2x4GB Ram

I just ordered memory after long reading forums to find out the best one:

Crucial
16GB kit (8GBx2)
DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT3650258

However, when my iMac comes should I mix my new 16gb Crucial ram with the 8gb of preinstalled ram or just take the old one out?

I would like 24gb of ram but if it's gonna slow performance I will take the factory standard out.

Corsair vengeance for iMac 27" late 2012

Hi,
can someone tell me that this will work on my new iMac 27" 2012 as i don't want to buy the wrong one :

Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10)

http://www.corsair.com/en/vengeance...p-memory-upgrade-kit-cmsx16gx3m2a1600c10.html

And is that the best I can buy for my iMac ? How is it compare to the Crucial or OWC or Kingston or Samsung or Hynix ?

Also the iMac standard ram is CL11 , what's the difference between the regular mac memory CL11 & CL10 on Corsair Vengeance or CL9 on Kingston HyperX KHX16LS9P1K2/16 in term of performance ?

http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KHX16LS9P1K2_16.pdf

Any recommendations advised is much appricated .

Thanks heaps

I can't speak for what is "best", but I put 32GB of that Corsair RAM into my new 27" a couple of days ago, and so far it's working great. (Note that that the price in the link seems super expensive. I bought it cheaper on NewEgg)

Just be sure if you go for memory that isn't CL11 to replace all of the RAM. As other discussion threads on here have mentioned, you will run into potential issues if you mix the CL11 RAM that comes with the Mac with CL10 or CL9 in the other slots (see the thread with the title about the RAM running at 1333 instead of 1600)

But wich is the difference from installing a CL11 or CL9?

I have 4 x 8 Gb Kingston KTA-MB1600/8G in my new 27" iMac. It runs flawlessly at 1600 MHz in MacOSX, with good benchmarks (13k+ in 32 bit Geekbench test). However, in Windows 7 in Bootcamp it is listed as running at 799 MHz. Is there a driver that can be upgraded to get it to 1600 MHz?

I bought 2 of these (way overkill -- 1 is enough plus the original 8gb! ) and the ram runs at full speed with 10-10-10:
