What a nightmare. I was out taking photos and got back into my truck. As I was leaving, I felt my pockets for my iphone 4 and did not find it. I went back to where I parked and there it was, smashed into pieces. To top it off, my wife leaves to Israel in the morning for work and it's my only phone. I do not have any extended apple care and I bought it on the release date. Will I have to pay a full iphone price to obtain another one? I also ordered it through Apple online. I assume the AT&T store (closest Apple store is over 2 hours away), will not do anything? Please help. I feel miserable to say the least.

I would say bring it to Apple and try to have it replaced for $200 with their out of warranty option but I dont know if they will do it since the phone is in pieces.
But worth a try, maybe they'll feel bad for you and will do you a favor and help you out.
Dont bother with AT&T they wont do anything and will just send you to Apple.

Just make sure you're not driving over another iphone:D

Ouch...I deserve that though LOL. What a nightmare. I love this thing. You all are not going to believe this. I was able to pry open the port with a screwdriver to sync it!

Thanks, I hope so as well. At least it was not my Nikon D3s that I ran over LOL

I hope so bro. I don't want to spend $499 for it like the site said.

I doubt if Apple Care does too much of anything. They normally head straight for replacements if the issue is due to physical damage. The really need to come out with some type of insurance for the iPhone. It's too expensive to replace.

Update

Just got back from Apple. I went in and explained my story along with the 2.5 hours drive I had. The Apple Genius told me it would be $199 to replace as it was obviously personal damage. He then told my wife that he had to tell her something about the mall when he came back. He came back a few minutes later and handed me my new phone and said it was FREE :) He then proceeded to tell my Wife there is a Tiffany's and a Burberry in the mall and that he was sure I would be happy to take her there LOL. What a great ending to a horrible day. I went to his manager and thanked him for the kindness and told him that the guy was great etc. One more reason why I love Apple.

You get what you pay for! Good to hear.

Which mall did you go to?

Wow! Incredible story! I am amazed that Apple gave you one for FREE! lol, enjoy the new phone!!!

Gotta love the customer service that Apple provides. And stories like yours are not rare, they are good and treat people right.
You show up nice, polite and tell them what happened honestly chances are they will take care of you.
Glad it worked out great.
Have a safe trip bro.

This really makes me hopeful...

Great ending to that story! You were lucky though...... besides as an act of kindness, they really had no other reason to not charge you the $199.

I exchanged my iP4 for a new one last night due to a couple of issues, and the woman next to me was charged the $199 due to water damage. She wasn't upfront about it, and didn't admit to it until they explained to her about the red liquid sensors. Perhaps if she was honest they wouldn't have charged her.....

Fantastic!

AND it synced - so you lost no data - nothing whatsoever lost!

Incredible! +1 for modern electronics, and +1 for Apple service.

I bet coming in and just being up-front about what happened went a long way. I am sure the "geniuses" get a whole lot of stories that they can just tell are not true.

Being polite, nice, and honest as a customer can go a long way.

Apple is unbeaten when ti comes to having "heart"!

Can you imagine the AT&T store doing this?

Congrats on getting it synced you should be back up and running!

Great story!:p
