I just helped a friend get her printer working with her Windows-based Thinkpad. It was so pathetic, as it was merely the installation of the correct driver. It's 2018 and this is still an issue??

This type of stuff is NEVER EVER *EVER* an issue on the Mac.
I find windows supports more printers, and printer makers are more apt to keep the drivers up to date. Not so for OS X printer drivers.

I had to download updated printer drivers, from Epson, that were specific to 10.13, Seems that the way HS installed my Work Force printer, it would be online/available, on my wifi network, but the Apple supplied printer drivers kept "losing it". My Windows machines never lost it. After 4 days it seems the issue is fixed.

Canon has long stopped providing updated drivers for my printer, and even Epson tells me to use Image Capture for my scanner instead of their desktop application. That desktop app is more robust, and powerful, yet its continually updated for windows. So now when I need to use the scanner I boot into windows.

All I know is that friends and family who are on Windows are continually frustrated, having to pay for the nice computer fixer man to come and those on the Mac have neither problems nor computer fixers writing invoices for them. :D

P.S.: I almost forgot: The same is true for those on Android as compared to those on iOS. :O

My 13 year old has been using one of my cast off W10 machines for close to 2 years and she has yet to have any issue or require my intervention, nor has my 9 year old for that matter...

People have problems with computers due to not knowing what they are doing, or potentially worse thinking that they do be it Linux, OSX, Unix, Windows, the list is endless...

Q-6

My niece has only used a Mac once. She didn’t like them. She still doesn’t. People have different tastes. I enjoy using different oses personally. My dad used to use my old iMac g3 for solitaire. That was it. The OP makes some valid points but to each their own right?
