I'll never understand why Apple seems to love the colors in the original sport band offerings so much. That baby blue and lime green were two of the colors available when the first iPad 2 smart covers came out. Pink might have also been an option.

But a straight-up damn red one? Of course not. Gotta wait a year or two to figure out that thousands or millions might want basic primary colors. The new sport band isn't as big of a deal since I now use it just when I plan on getting messy, but I really would've liked a red leather loop much better. I love the blue one I got, but a red one would just be awesome.

I would love to see some sales figures on the red and other basic colors versus the pastels. I didn't spend $600 for something to look like an Easter decoration.

The straight-up red is reserved for their PRODUCT(RED) affiliation, and often appears in the second wave, after a product launch, going back to the iPod days. This has been pretty clear for some years now.

Just because you want strong primary colors doesn't mean everybody does (don't worry, that's a common mistake). The first (only so far) new band I've ordered is the turquoise one. Easter never entered my mind. I suspect the pastel colors will sell quite well. And they have some pretty highly placed fashion experts helping them choose band colors, it's not just Tim scribbling on a pad of paper in his office.

(FWIW, I've got a SGS with black, blue, and green sports bands, black and blue leather loops, and an aftermarket red leather loop thats about 90% as good as a real one. And the new sport bands that interested me were red, midnight blue, turquoise, and lavender.)

Well, I'm sympathetic to the OP, even if none of the rest of you are. I was annoyed they brought out the Gold Sports with Midnight Blue strap. Had that been in the original line-up I certainly would have bought it and not the SS, thereby saving a wodge of cash.

So sell your SS... Probably can still get good coin for it. Use the $ to get your gold sports. You should still end up w/ change in your pocket. But to be "annoyed" that a company releases new products is irrational.

I'm happy with the new bands. I might pick up a Red Sports or Orange Sports to go with my SS (already have black sports, blue sports and Milanese). I also like the changes to the blue leather loop (made it darker)... looks much nicer.

Anytime you purchase technology you have to be prepared for new versions coming out soon. For me, I only ask myself "Are the capabilities of the current device worth they price they are asking for it?". If the answer is yes (and I have the cash!) then it's time to buy.

These new watches and bands don't diminish the capabilities of the Watch I already bought... and it is still worth the price I paid for it (even more actually, as it's obvious that the overall design is going to be supported for a while with new accessories).

I'm annoyed that my iphone I bought last year is now not current ..... This is the thing about Apple, there will always be a better product for the same price around the corner. Thats the way it is. I fully expect to have to buy another Apple watch next year if I want to stay current.

There were rumors stacked on top of rumors before we ordered that the lineup available at launch would not remain static and other metals would be introduced and possibly completely different models within a year. The price of being an early adopter is that things like this not only can happen but are likely to happen. It's not just Apple products, this is true in fashion, home furnishings, etc. I run into all the time.
