God that sucks...
Id be devastates if I lost all my gear :(
I think im going to learn from your experience and insure my macbook pro this week im slightly paranoid now...

Good luck with replacing it hope it doesn't take you too logn !

Do you live in Southie? I do and I was broken into in January. They used a bar to rip the door open and broke the deadbolt right out of the lock housing. It was the one day I was about to miss the bus and didn't set the alarm. They made off with my xbox360, all the controllers and games, jewelry, camera, my roommates ibook and a bunch of other stuff. They even stole the fishbowl of spare change I had on my dresser. The kicker was they stole a camping backpack of mine to steal all my stuff. They left my macbook which I found odd. Thinking back though the battery was dead and the charger was in a different room. My roommate found out a week later that he had saved his password in iTunes and they went onto his account and bought $40 worth of movies on the store! I was lucky because I have renters insurance but he didn't even after I told him he should. I can't stress enough how important it is to get renters insurance since it only costs about $20 a month. The worst part of the whole ordeal was knowing that someone was in my apartment and went through everything. They literally didn't leave a single drawer unopened and tossed and went through all the electronics boxes etc because they are junkies and looking for cash.

Op

one thing i have learned my friends house was broken into 3 times in one month until they installed a metal door where the perks kept breaking in at. If they broke in once trust me they will do it again its just a matter of time. If i were you i would move to another apt or install some type of security because its going to happen again its sad but thiefs have no morals.

I live in the backbay/fens area. Yeah the whole thought of a complete stranger just rummaging through my stuff has me uneasy. not a good feeling. I changed all the passwords on my accounts and everything right after I gave my police report...luckily i didnt save any passwords to any bank sites i might have used on my macbook

Sorry to hear about your loss. It sucks to have someone violate your home like that. I have had it happen to me and it feels absolutely horrible.

It's kind of sad that Apple Products are big targets. Hiding your stuff is a great idea as I always put my MB away when I leave the house.
