I thought it was better than every other phone that AT&T made. I know it had better service than the 3G because I use it everyday to and from work and the new one cuts out in one spot that the first gen didn't.
I'll just respond to this aspect only. First gen is using EDGE, and 3G is using 3G. To make fair comparison, you have to turn off 3G network. This is really a problem with AT&T, not Apple.

No I am just saying for making calls... with my nextel I would loose service at one spot everyday, when i got the iphone I was so thrilled that it worked my whole trip home. Now with the 3G iPhone it drops in the same spot my nextel did. FYI i live on a mountain and the spot I am talking about is a valley, kinda, Im not a cartogdbsiuaduyvksaudvb (Map Maker)

The 3G service is awesome, fast... And I love that it is a separate antenna, so u could talk and surf at the same time...

You do understand that 3G and EDGE is also for voice calling? If 3G service is spotty, it will drop calls. 3G is preferred over EDGE on the iPhone 3G, hence you are more likely to drop phone calls in area with bad 3G service.

Well if everyone else has a perfect phone then I may try returning my iPhone but one question, though - I got the iPhone from a O2 shop but I want to get it replaced at the Apple Store because I think they would be a lot more helpful, is that possible?

EDIT: Also, in regard to a previous post, I do like the UI of the iPhone, it's great to use, I just wish it worked properly...

Yeah, you can get it replaced by Apple. Afterall, it's under APPLE's warranty.

I'm not saying my iPhone is perfect, but at least where I live, the coverage is awesome and I get 5 bars everywhere (even outside of my room ;)). The only time my iPhone loses service is when I'm in the warehouse at work or at Wal-Mart :(. Everywhere else, I get excellent service and I've only dropped 1 call since I got my iPhone 3G (yeah, it threw me off big time... I was like... uh, what just happened?). Anyways... the only problems I've had with my iPhone's are cosmetic issues with build quality.
