Cardi B is a true Cinderella story in a sense. Read up on her rise to fame. It's amazing.

She is a household name. She's performed in SNL, Fallon, etc. Put some respect on her name. lol

You all with the "who is she?" lol - I bet you wouldn't be saying that if she was a white artist.

Actually, I am (was) a die-hard hip hop fan. I just don't get the new hip hop. I miss artists that were talented and raw like BDK, Eric B & Rakim, Tuff Crew, etc. Stuff today feels way over-produced and is usually short-lived.

Why is it when someone that isn't white is criticized, the critic is automatically labeled a racist? I can't think someone's music is crap because they're black?! Please.

Why play the racist card, comments like this don't belong in this topic, why even mention it!

It's ok for white people or whomever to not know who Cardi B is. It's not a race thing, it's a music genre issue. There are a large number of rock artists and especially country artists that I have no clue about. Because I don't listen to those genres often. Not everything is about race.

And congrats to Cardi B. This is very good news, even if you don't like her music, she does have a nice story.

Not in my household, I’m afraid.

Are there any catchy songs in this album? I like a couple of her songs...but this album seems boring
Catchy as in "you're at the club and want to dance"? If so, there are a few. The beat to "She Bad" and "Money Bag" makes me want to club.

"I Like it" will probably be very popular in Florida clubs. It is probably my favorite song on the album.

Wasn't she the one in the Amazon advertisement during the Super Bowl who kept playing rap music when the customer was asking for country and who couldn't understand why someone would want information about Mars? I don't know if it was a deliberate characterization, but she came across as very superficial and limited about general knowledge in that commercial.

Um...your avatar shows your age, assuming, that you're like me and became a fan during his heyday in the 80's. However, he was sufficiently talented and creative enough to remain relevant and gain new fans well past the 80's, so maybe you're a much younger fan than I am. I was in my sophomore year of college when I started listening to him...on tape. First on a cheap cassette player and then on a Sony Walkman it took ages to save up for and which I still have.
Yes I first became a fan in the early 80s.

It also shows how valuable the network effect is when recording companies and marketing experts decide to get behind one artist. This isn't organic growth. No one finds 100 million listeners on a debut album without a massive marketing effort. It might seem organic but it's not. There are millions of artists on Apple Music I'll never find out about because Apple music is always recommending hip hop to me or anything that i like that isn't something I've already heard. I don't hear about new music until someone like this comes out and some how it's magically recommended to me. It's not some organic algorithm. This is all marketing.

It's actually quite amazing that despite the insane abundance of music available today via YouTube and other sites, the music industry manages to still own and dominate what people listen to.

There are so many incredibly talented people making amazing music but nobody will know about because they aren't what the industry push.

It's actually kind of sad how, like sheep, most people still go with whatever they're fed. I suspect it's all part of the need to fit in.

Heh I’m whiter than white but can’t stand country music. Blech.

I contributed at least 1,000,000 streams - this is such a good album and I'm so happy for her. She represents an EXTREMELY underrepresented demographic and she keeps it as real as possible in this industry.

Obviously this music isn't for everyone and thats fine but you can't deny how hard this woman worked to get to where she is despite that fact that our society is built in a way that gives this black Latina women every disadvantage.

Those two aren’t comparable. Firstly, completely different genres. Second, Taylor swifts reputation was available of AM atleast 2-3 weeks later if I remember. So 12 million sales were already made previously.

I haven’t really listened to much of her music, although what I have heard sounds alright to me. I like her mainly for her personality, I find her adorably hilarious from interviews I’ve seen of her. She won me over purely because of that. Also, I believe she’s worked hard from the bottom so she deserves it. All the success to her!

Rap, black or white, is the same; It hurts my ears.
