Buyer beware — the Apple-1 is on the official list of obsolete devices.

$400k for a computer Apple doesn’t even support anymore? Hard pass. ?

Exactly right! Buyers must pay attention.

Afaik most if not all parts in Apple I are obtainable if price is not a huge concern. One can still build a brand new one from scratch today. So yeah, one can still get a brand new Apple I today with enough soldering skills and whatnot.
As such, that computer is really only valuable for display rather than actual use. Who programs anything using ONLY machine language nowadays?

Amazing, how much we are willing to pay to collect for nostalgia reasons, knowing full well there is no utility in this machine. It's still a cool bit of computer history.
speculation is a thing too.

People buy these items; sit on it for a few years and expect it to go up in value. Profit!

It’s rather peculiar that every year some old ancient Apple computer goes up for auction
What's peculiar about it? People own them. Either because they happen to have one from way back when, or, more likely because they're a collector and are hugely attached to it. But they are also extremely valuable, so you don't just send it off for recycling when you're done with it. People occasionally decide that they'd rather have a half million dollars than having a museum piece in their living room. Auction seems like the most likely way to sell one on to the next sentimental collector.

Personally, I don’t care that it’s signed by Steve Wozniak. I just think it would be awesome to own a piece of vintage architecture from Apples early days. But that’s just me.

I wonder if there is any money for KIM, SYM, or AIM 6502 computers, which typically sold for about US$999. Those usually had 4KB of static RAM, a 10 or 12 digit display, and a keyboard. Paper tape storage punch/reader was optional.

My math teacher in middle school in Northern California back in the early '80s brought one of these in to class one day to show off. I hope he held onto it!

Also, it is absolutely hilarious that they put it on the official "obsolete products" page.

Did Woz say that one has a 6501 instead of a 6502? Or was he just making smalltalk there? I couldn't make it out.
