My Droid Rzr rattled, my Droid Rzr Maxx HD rattled, my iPhone 5 rattled and my 5s rattles all from camera lens. it rattles cause of the camera lens so it can move freely so if you shake when taking a picture the lens can offset your movement to try to get a blurry free picture just like any other high end smart phone.
If this was already discussed and solved my apologies I didnt read the entire thread :D

No, that would be OIS (optical image stabilization), something the iPhone doesn't have.
What you are hearing is from Auto Focus

Best of luck on your next replacement. my 5S doesn't really rattle (other than the camera, but not severe) and yours shouldn't either. Update this thread when your replacement arrives and let us know how it is :)

Rattle Gate (My Experience)

I noticed that my iPhone 5 power/lock button had the same rattle, but it doesn't bother me. With a case on the phone I don't even think I can hear the sound. This seems to be a design problem with the 5/5S.

Same here. When I just touch it gently it rattles a bit, not awesomely high though. But it's funny because phones of this kind quality-level are supposed to have excellent quality. Especially when they cost, like here, 1200 EUR. Like buying a new Rolls-Royce and suddenly the dashboard-buttons rattles. Imagine that cruising around in a car worth maybe 300k EUR where every freaking button rattles. It would piss me off every km/mile by km/mile, more and more. I guess HTC One won this battle after all... :p

And as far as I know, happy customers = happy business. ;)

So many lovely people on the forum...

Anybody got anything useful, supportive or interesting things to say...

Yes. I have some useful advice for you.

Get things into perspective. Some people are dying, some people cannot afford to feed themselves, some people have no access to clean water. Stop making something out of nothing. Your £500 mobile phone having a tiny rattle is nothing compared to what's going on in other parts of the world.

If it bugs you that much, return it. Donate the money you spent on the phone and feed a family in a third world country for a few years.

Oh, and stop calling everything -gate. A problem with YOUR phone doesn't not immediately mean that there is a problem with every single damn device out there.

Such lovely, lovely people....

Oh look, he called it a -Gate, lets get pissed off..
Oh look, he explained everything rationally but I'm still going to comment 'stop shaking the phone'

I don't see you going to those places and giving people water to drink and food to eat, so your not really at liberty to try to use that to scrutinise my rationing on a product that has a problem when it really shouldn't (throughly explained) which I have the money to pay for...

Thank you very much

I got the replacement and immediately noticed it had a patch of light bleed, when i was putting on my case, the screen made this weird rippling effect, the screen itself seems very weak. It also rattles even worse than my last one, but I put a case on my phone which dampens it significantly, so its not really an issue as I stated lots of times in my first post (which most of the forum can't be bothered to understand)

Apple are going to give me a whole retail replacement, complete with new accessories and a new 12 month warranty. I don't care if it rattles a bit, I just want it to work nicely, vibrate properly and not give me any troubles.

I have something supportive to say. Use the thread already started for this non-issue.:p

'My-Experience' I was hoping for this thread to start intelligent conversation. :p

I sent my first 5S back b/c of the rattling, ordered a new one and got one that didn't rattle.

But the screen looks so much worse than my old 4, has vertical lines all over it, (My first 5S screen looked better than my 4) that I'm sending this one back as well. I'll try one more phone, if that too is sub-par gonna wait for 6.

First apple product ever I've had to send back, really disappointed with the quality of 5S.

Yes I understand about the camera lens rattle. My iPhone 4 and iPad mini do it, but its so quiet you have to be in a dead silent room and really give the device a shake in order to hear it. I never even noticed it once during my usage with these devices.

Sounds like a plan, the quality of the 5S is really bad for me too. Apple are going to replace it with a full brand new retail unit, so hopefully it won't give me any problems.

Did you really need to start this topic? It's the lens element rattling and this is normal behaviour.

Yes, I did, I wanted to share my experience with people who might be interested. Isn't that what a forum is for?...

Oh no my mistake, starting another topic that has been discussed even through it is a persons own experience is totally unacceptable...

All those words to describe rattling

All those words to describe my experience with Apple and the iPhone 5s...

Please stop calling every problem with your cellphone "Something Gate"

1) It's annoying

2) Your phone rattling, scuffing, dropping some calls is absolutely trivial in comparison to something like Watergate to the point that it's insulting

3) It's annoying

----------

Love it

Im sorry you got so annoyed that you didn't even bother to read the actual post......

----------

You are just replacing a problem with a different problem. No phone is going to 100% defect free. You just have to pick your poison.

Should have stayed with the first phone. At least you didn't have the rattle that bothers you so much now.

It had terrible battery life. Like I say, my old iPhone 4 and iPad mini rattled, but it was so quiet I never noticed it until I explicitly listened for it. If my 5S was like that, i'd be a happy man.

----------

Patient: "Doctor! It hurts when I do this!"

Doctor: "So quit doing that."

Obviously not a very good doctor then...

indeed, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one sick and tired of people calling every minor little issue a "-gate."

just some common sense advice: If you're on your third exchange and still aren't happy, then it's time to come to terms with the notion that perhaps obtaining an iPhone 5s that meets your high expectations just isn't in the cards.

Some might accuse you of having OCD or being too obsessive. Others (and likely yourself) might accuse Apple of having Quality Control that's too poor. But regardless of where the finger is pointed, the outcome stays the same: the phones are still going to rattle.

So, you have a choice to make: be happy with the unit you currently have and accept its flaws, real or perceived. Or, assuming you still can, cut your losses and return the device and get a refund, if you truly feel that this issue is going to prevent you from effectively enjoying and using it.

Once you're on device 4 and still having the same issues, the odds of getting a "perfect" one at number 5, number 10... number 20? Drastically diminish with each successive exchange, and it'll simply be a waste of time and effort to continue.

For what it's worth: there's a small rattle in my iPhone 5s too. My solution? Don't shake the phone. And based on your experienced, they're probably all gonna do that anyway.

*Gasp*, a thread that has -Gate in it, ARGH IM SO ANNOYED NOW ...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I have already said, my iPhone 4 and iPad mini rattled, and I never noticed it until I really gave them a good shake and explicitly listened for it. I noticed it on the 5s on day one. IDC if it rattles slightly, but when it starts vibrating like a rattle snake, has terrible battery life and then the screen has light bleed and is extremely weak to tapping it, then theres problems.

My 5s is great. I've had it a few weeks with none of these issues. No noticeable rattle. No light bleed. Battery could be a hair better but that is common with batteries until they get some cycles on them.

I may have gotten lucky. I would not get the same phone replaced 4 times, I'd switch if I found that many issues.
