i wouldn't attribute that to consistency, just that you lucked out.

count your blessings
Ya, you're probably right about that. I completely agree that Apple's quality control has really gone down in the past few years. I know that QC is difficult in the world of manufacturing, but there needs to be improvement.

After doing a lot of research and reading a lot of forums. This sound is definitely coming from the screen. There is a lose sheet behind the display which moves around freely in the new 2015 Macbook Pro retina and the 2015 Macbook retina. A lot of them do this but some of them do not. This is disappointing because I don't think this is something apple foresaw as being a problem to users. I have a friend who bought a new rMBP yesterday and he said that his doesn't do this at all. It just sucks that a lot of them do it and the only way to fix it is to get the entire display replaced. Now my 2015 rMBP is just 3 weeks old and I do not want apple geniuses to open it open and replace a display on a brand new computer. I rather just live with a little rattle in my computer. It has a 1 year warranty so I'm sure you guys can go in at any point before your 1 year is up and get this replaced if it still continues to bother you. my only concern is getting it replaced and getting another one which has the same problem. It's a tremendous hassle in my opinion.

After 2 replacements, I am in the process of getting a refund. It appears to be present in all rMB models - some have a more pronounced rattle than others. I am going to sit it out and order the next generation of rMB.

Hi all,

Try this: open your rMB and shake it fairly vigorously left and right, horizontally (like this). Hear a sound like an object knocking against the casing? Quite a large object?

Mine does this, and so do two others that I tested in an Apple Store, so it's clearly quite common, if not ubiquitous. The funny thing is that sometimes it doesn't do it at all – most of the time it does, though.

I'm assuming it's the battery, but anyone got any thoughts? Anyone definitely NOT getting any rattle at all?

I'm currently facing the same problem with my 2016 rMB (which I bought just two months ago) and it's very very annoying. I sent mine to the apple service center and they opened it up, checked it and replaced the display and it stopped for awhile but now it's happening again. Did you manage to fix the problem? It's really driving my ocd self nuts.

Based on the posts in this thread, the only "fix" for this problem is to get the display replaced by Apple. Even then, as you have experienced, it may only be a temporary fix.

We have owned around (4) in our company over the past year and all of them at some point started to do it. Some did it out of the box, others started a few months later.

Weird my 2016 m5 macbook has this noise when tilting the MB left to right etc but guess what, I normally use it flat, sat on a surface.

If it has a failure of some form I'm sure my AC+ will cover it :)

I can confirm that this is a problem that Apple does not feel is a problem. According to Apple it is with in a reasonable deviation of their building process. An ignorant Apple authorized repair center sent mine to Apple and this is what Apple told them to tell me. They refused to fix the shifting and I got my MacBook back still shifting.

Here's a short one from me: after three ratteling 2016 m3 I got my money back and I am waiting for the entry rMBP now. I called Apple to report the problem and they told me that I am the only man on the planet facing this issue. No, I am not keeping a rattling Notebook for that price.

Kernel panic thread and now this. I was very close to scooping up a m5 model. Looks like i will keep waiting. This is a real shame they are having such quality issues with this machine.
