Wow, scary for sure, though I am not surprised. Resealing iPhones has been a trend for a while in the second hand and gray market for years. That is why it if always better to check to see if the phone has been activate using the serial number on the box on checkcoverage.apple.com, and also make sure the serial number on the box matches the serial number being reported in iOS

Why is this surprising to anyone? If the package can be originally sealed, of course it can be resealed by another actor, nefarious or not.
