Read text messages don't match up

Is there a way that when I read a text on my phone that it shows that on my watch? My watch has a (7) showing and I read all of those on the phone. I don't want to go through the watch now and 'mark as read'.

Messages on Watch not Syncing with Phone

Hello. In the last few days, the messages on my Apple Watch (5th gen) and iPhone XS are not in sync. I have to check the message on both devices to get the messages to be marked as read on the watch. I've tried power cycling both devices without any success. Previously, this wasn't an issue...

I’m still dealing with it. After I put the watch back on from charging, I have to clear so many messages from the watch.
