at first, I too thought the battery was awful. After a few charge cycles I am quite surprised how much better the battery life seems to have gotten. I read somewhere that lithium batteries need to go through a few charge cycles before reaching full capacity. I spent 2 hours on the phone today, played some games for a good hour, been texting all day, and have browsed intermittently over wifi and 3g all day. I have 40% battery left.

Pointless response.

What is has to do with the case is that there is potentially other people who have defective units. The OP has premised his thread on the idea that all people whining about their battery are just expecting too much. Clearly, that is not correct.

Perhaps someone reading this thread might have put up with a defective unit because the kool aid drinkers just tell 'em to suck it up, "case closed". I don't think they should have to do that.

Honestly, i wouldn't go with these so called tests that have been quoted. The ultimate test is that of real world usage by us end users. If many are complaining that the device is not able to last a whole day; quoting a study stating otherwise does not mean a thing.

If you read this lame article at Gizmodo, you'll see the ridiculous solutions being offered. The reason we purchase the iPhone 3G is to enjoy all its new features. If we are supposed to turn them off to preserve battery life, what's the point of upgrading in the first place?

Battery life is definitely an issue whether the naysayer's would like to agree or not.

P.S. The fact that the battery size has been reduced from 1400 mAh to 1150 mAh has to mean something!

With regards to battery life, the shortened lifespan seems to be more to do with the 2.0 firmware than the 3g iPhones... My original 8Gb iPhone used to last days before needing recharging, now after upgrading to the 2.0 firmware it died last night whilst I was sleeping (meaning that I wasn't using it for anything at all) - I've turned off PUSH this morning, praying it makes a difference - else I'm just going to go back to the 1.1.4 firmware...
