I agree 100% that Readdle makes great software. I know there are some BIG updates coming for their emaill client "Spark" that is going to work on Mac AND Windows...finally something to give Outlook a run!

Hopefully, their Calendars app will get some big updates and work into Spark as well ;)

What's the use case for this app? What's the difference from just using Apple's Files app?
In Documents and PDF Expert all files you put on their iCloud folder get downloaded for offline use in all your devices without the need of you doing anything. Apple Files doesn't have an offline mode, you must open one by one your documents for offline access.

Here’s what you can do with Documents:
* Manage all your files and cloud services
* Browse the internet
* Connect a built-in VPN to stay private
* Listen to music
* Watch videos
* Read books
* Edit PDFs
* Open 40+ file formats including .flac, .mkv, .avi, .rar
* Easily share files with your computer

Save time with Smart Actions: smart contextual shortcuts that help you work faster. Just a few examples:
* Upload a file to Dropbox, and Documents suggests you share a link.
* Move a photo, and Documents can show you its new location.
* Save a PDF from the other app, and Documents lets you sign it right away.

Did they remove the local Wi-Fi connection feature with the PC, which could be used to access files through web browser on PC? That was my favorite feature!

Are you kidding? If I remember correctly, this is the company that puts trackers in their apps (like Facebook SDK and Amplitude). The opposite of privacy.

Hey @Nikita Tanchuk let me tell you that I’ve been using Documents by Readdle for years on my iPad. The feature I use the most is “search” for searching inside the whole document. Sometimes the document is a big, big PDF with thousands of pages. My only request so far would be to make searching inside the documents even faster, easier and agile (with CMD+F)

I will download Documents X right now! If I see some room for improvement I will let you know, now that I know you are on MacRumors. Thank you!

Would have loved thumbnails for pdf's by only loading the first page of the file. I have magazines in pdf format that are let's say 70 MB. Read the first page that's 1 MB. Reduce the size of the captured page with compression and resolution automatically and save it in cache for a more seamless and visual browsing experience.

Since I can't seem to find it on my iPhone app store search right now - is it really free, or free with in-app purchases?
It still shows up in the App Store as "Documents: Files, PDF, Browser" with a version 8.0 note that it's now called "Documents X"

Would be good to be able to optionally disable the VPN, Browser feature(so that the icons disappear from the bottom bar), but it’s probably intended and why Documents is free.
Is that the sticking point here? Are we forced to use the VPN when using this app? Ick.

Hi there! Glad to inform you that our Documents app is free. The only paid features are PDF Editor and Unlimited VPN, however, you can browse and annotate PDFs and use 50 Mb in VPN per day without any subscription.
Just downloaded it. It already performs better on reaching deep down in a many layer deep folder tree than Files does. Will make this part of my workflow.

No, but there is a Readdle Guy in here and maybe they start thinking about it.

Somehow i personally dislike features of an App that permanently advertises other Apps and Services, and i'm sure not alone with this mindset. This is one of the reasons why i never liked the old versions of Readdle Apps, because there was always this prominent last button listing all the Readdle Apps you didn't subscribe or buy.

Better directly open a Link with the default Browser, or use a SafariViewController like Twitter does, and optionally offer the build-in Browser. Advertise VPN once or twice, and let the user optionally disable and hide it, just like you can customise the top toolbar of Finder. I would even pay 1-5euro once to be able to disable these features and hide these icons permanently.

Apart from that their Tools are top notch 💪
Oh and i personally dislike subscriptions, this made me stop buying their Readdle PDF Tools, but it's their business...

Still no access to network drives from Apples File App. I ask since years for this feature. But a non removable VPN button on the sidebar.

Readdle have some really high quality apps, and a super reactive support team. One of the few app makers I have no problem forking money for (I bought PDF Expert Pro for Mac and it's great). Their UX is top tier.

Just had a look at the website. Looked intriguing until I tried to find pricing for Scanner Pro, but all it said was Free Download. Had to google the price, only to find it's a free 7 day trial, then a sub. Sorry Readdle, you've lost me as a customer forever, that sort of lack of transparency breaks my trust.

Want to put a citation to that assertion out there, or are you just going to hit and run here?

Is that how the app works now. I paid for it once many years back and have been using it all this while without any issues or additional charges.

I’m guessing PDF Expert does less than this? I switched to Expert and Documents has been in the cloud since

"3.4 Our Apps use Facebook SDK of Facebook 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/ios/, https://developers.facebook.com/policy) to analyze sources of app installations and how you use the app. Facebook SDK and Analytics is a service which helps us to improve ours Service by better understanding general app usage patterns."

"Getting started with Facebook SDK
The first thing you have to do to get the ball rolling is implement a Facebook SDK into your app. In a nutshell, this is a piece of Facebook code which helps you understand if a customer has come from a Facebook ad and tracks his behavior within your app.
[…]
The biggest thing about setting up this SDK is defining your key app events (aka user’s actions). […] Or, you can (and you should) log your own events, that are specific to your app.[…] Beyond that, create an event for every single action a user might take in you app: file opened, file closed, camera opened, sent via email, 1Password used — literally anything. You’ll thank yourself later.
[…]
The next step is to hop to Facebook analytics. Select People tab and double check your app audience’s age, gender, sessions length, job titles, interests etc. This is where you pan for gold."

Did they remove the local Wi-Fi connection feature with the PC, which could be used to access files through web browser on PC? That was my favorite feature!
To add a connection please go to My Files > tap "+" > choose Computer

Thanks for sharing your feedback, hope you'll enjoy Documents X! Please tell me if the issue with large PDFs will re-occur in the latest version so we can take a closer look.
