Regarding the Marvel Digital Unlimited subscription not being iPad compatible. i sent an email to Marvel regarding the need to make it iPad compatible, even if it ends up costing more because it's worth it, and this is the response.

Dear Matt,
Thank you for contacting Marvel's Online Support services.
We are looking into solutions on how to integrate our Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited subscription service with the Marvel Comics App for the iPad. We hope to have more information later in the year.

That is awesome news! Truth be told, I would pay more for that.

ditto. I fell out of comics for a couple years while my head was burried in other books getting a degree, and now there's so much I've missed in the Marvel world, esp the Civil war series and I've got a comprehensive list and reading order but finding the books outside of MDU subscription is proving a pain in the ass. Hoping for a solution sooner rather than later.

Reading Civil War now (not just the 7 books but all issues involved). I'm about 35 issues in (of like 100) and it's awesome so far. Well worth it so far!

Hey,

I'm looking at getting into comic reading on the iPad. Was wondering what the benefit of using the individual marvel/dc apps is over the comixology one? Also, if I buy into one system I'm assuming the comics aren't transferable? Anyone care to help offer some basic advice? ;)

Are you able to upload your own comics onto this reader. I have many purchased many over the years which i have stored on my Pc drive. Am i able to upload them to this application via itunes as i am able to with other readers.

Hey guys. New to the forum, and I'm looking to get an iPad (because I have everything Apple). Was just wondering about the iPad comic book downloads. How do they work? Is it $2-$3 an issue or a subscription? At that much I might as well just buy the hard copy. How does the Marvel Unlimited thing work? If it's worth it I'll get these digital comics for my iPad.

Use ComicGlass. Best reader for scans IMO. I like the way the comic can stretch to fit the full width and all you need to do is scroll down a bitch on each scan. You can set that as default so you don't need to change for every page (can't say the same for the other comic readers). It's also the fastest loading and doesn't bog down with a large file, even when going "back" a few pages. It's the best.

I don't read much comics on the iPad, but from the possibilities I've seen, I think the iPad is amazing for use as a comic reader.

Unfortunately only some apps have it while others don't.

I'm talking about the automatic zooming-in and zooming-out between panels. This looks amazing and makes reading comics a whole different game on the iPad. The Marvel app does this the best, while the Dark Horse app does this competently. No other apps I know of does this.

I accidentally dropped mine from the second floor balcony, while reading a Superman comic, it just bounced on the concrete without a scratch or dent. iPads are amazing.

I love Marvel

I love reading comics on my new iPad 2 as well. It's really quite an experience! I wish more comics were free but I've downloaded quite a bit to keep me busy for a while! Great content and the box-to-box viewing really enhances the viewing pleasure.

It was one of the many reasons for getting it for me. I got all of The Walking Dead comics and flipped through them and it was nice.

That's only because you were reading the Superman comic.

Can anyone suggest some good places to download comics? Can I download them anywhere for free? DC Comics charges about $3 an issue.

I'm having a blast. I tried comics on the iPad for the first time yesterday. I haven't picked up a comic in years, but there are a some real gems out there.

I'm using Zen Viewer for CBR/CBZ files and good old iBooks for those I can get in PDF format. I find iBooks renders them ever so slightly sharper. Not sure why.

What I'm enjoying:

Druuna - the 8-part series by Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri. If you're old enough to remember the glory days of Heavy Metal Magazine (and more likely the 1984 movie) then you'll probably remember Druuna. A very mature-themed, post-apocalyptic/wasteland story. It's very well done and really takes me back.

In fact, the entire Heavy Metal magazine series is available in CBR format. They look superb on the iPad.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - Phillip K. Dick's work in comic book form. Basically the progenitor of Blade Runner.

Dust to Dust - An adaptation or sort of outgrowth from the Do Android's Dream of Electric Sheep comic series. Haven't gotten to this one yet. I scanned the first few pages and it looks very promising.
