It’s only $10 a month on my mobile share plan ATT.
Here are the details from mine.

Consumers can have up to 10 devices on a Family AT&T Unlimited Plus or AT&T Unlimited Choice plan.1 The monthly charge is $20/mo. for each smartphone, basic/feature phone, tablet, eligible Connected Car, Wireless Home Phone, Wireless Home Phone and Internet Hotspot. Each Wearable on the plan is $10/mo.

Delighted to confirm: much of AW S3 LTE-related bill was one-time, as several more than necessarily agitated participants felt the need to argue.
Finally got off my keister and confirmed with AT&T: Ongoing service for AW should run about $12-13 per month in addition to my iPhone line.
Just as I mentioned. First bills are always off, especially when it includes pro-rated charges and activation fees.

Ahhh that’s probably the difference. You have an unlimited plan. I don’t. And added smartphones are $15 on mine.

Did you have to do it in store or over the phone? I ordered mine through Apple but need to activate on T-Mo
Neither. When I paired the watch to the phone and went through setup I was prompted. I was automatically taken to the TMO site where I had to agree to a few things and I was done. VERY painless. No phone calls. No store visit. No separate online work. Just pair the watch to a T-Mobile phone and follow the prompts in the pairing process.

I just signed up on Verizon and received the free 3 months deal. However the letter I received shows an estimated taxes of $6.35 each month added on top of the $10. I'll have to see if $16/month is worth it.

"Taxes and Verizon Wireless surcharges may add between 7% to 46% of your monthly bill."

It's crazy to me to think of paying a 50% tax/surcharge on a product/service.

That's just a proration. That's NOT how much you are going to pay monthly. It's just like your first cell phone bill depending on what day of the month you activate. You get charged that partial month plus the next month in advance so it "SEEMS" more.
On the taxes on the Watch, they probably charged you the taxes for your partial month, plus the next month plus taxes on the one time activation fee. Depending on what State and local taxes are, you should be looking at $2-3 more on taxes a month.
