wait why are the hardware specs of the samsung better again? they seem to be about the same...

How the hell are they doing it? 6750m and a quad core for a grand? Samsung?

If the trackpad is anything decent, I'm utterly confused at how they can offer such a laptop without operating at a loss.

6490m, 1600x900, 14 inch screen in a 13 inch package kills the 13" MBP no questions though.

The 15 inch has simply amazing pricing that it doesn't even matter.

Goes to show what the margins on Apple's products are.

Unfortunately for PC manufacturers, no matter how nice you make your laptops, there's very little sense of brand identity/equity. Most PC consumers don't care about the brand...they are purely motivated by price. Which, in turn, creates very small margins for PC manufacturers. Doesn't mean that PC products are bad, or that Apple products are necessarily better...that's just the economics of the PC market. It's great for consumers...not so great for PC Manufacturers (hence HP pulling out of the PC market).

Apple technically has a monopoly on OSX, and as such, can charge whatever they want for the hardware, as long as consumers are willing to pay up. In turn, the value of Apple products and the Apple brand, in the eyes of Apple consumers, go beyond the cost of the hardware alone.

Lack of competition (in terms of OSX) + high perceived consumer value - Cost of Components = Apple Tax.

Actually hp has not pulled out of the pc market. They just stopped selling the tablet they may spin off the pc side but that was just speculation as of yet its just the shut down of the tablet and the smartphone for now.

We have no idea what Apple margins are. The comparisons between Apple and Samsung are not fair comparisons. Samsung has to outsource very few parts (they make Memory and other types of Silica, display screens, controllers and drives). They have to outsource very few components, therefor their prices can be lower and more competitive. Apple is mainly responsible for design and must outsource everything. In fact they outsource lots from Samsung, so Samsung's prices to the consumer could almost be equal to their prices to Apple. Like you said if they could charge it and get away with it, why not.

As much as I like these laptops, I will probably still buy a macbook. My friends will think I am a moron if I buy the samsung one. They would call me a wannabe apple fan.

If you want to get that specifics, technically it offers a better hard drive.

Better connectivity: HDMI + VGA vs displayport. And thunderbolt vs 2x USB 3.0, the latter of which are miles ahead atm. Thunderbolt has more "potential", since it makes eGPU possible, but that's to be seen. If there is an eGPU solution, odds are, it'll be DIY.

I'm going to buy a 2012 17" MBP instead of this crap as I already own 2 Samsung laptops and a Samsung netbook.

PC laptops drop in value so fast these days.

True but they always have and the only reason Apple Notebooks don't is because there are so many people who don't care about specs & speed and stuff but just want to have a notebook that looks like an Apple Notebook and cannot afford a new one. It is mostly fashion victims.

I like Samsung products, but I know what I am buying next, and nothing will change that.

All the best to Samsung with this MBP look-a-like ripoff.

I thought hardware implied specs.

Looks are subjective, though I like the MBP's more too.

But I honestly wouldn't mind a numpad, or at the very least, an extra row of home/end/page up/page down/insert/delete keys. And the thin bezel looks great. The off color palmrest... not so much.

The only thing Samsung could've/should've done was to be the first to remove the optical drive, before Apple did it, and either made room for a better cooling system, a second HDD, or more DIMMs.
As soon as the optical drive is removed is when I stop purchasing macbooks.

Then I hope you enjoy your final MB purchase.

On a side note, you DO realize that an ODD can be remedied for ~$15-20 and a USB port right?

8GB SSD, more RAM and higher resolution as standard. And you save over $1000.

In the case of the 14'' in comparison to the MBP 13'', you also get a bigger screen for a similar chassis, a lighter laptop, a matte screen, faster and bigger HDD, and a dedicated GPU. For 100$ less.

I just thought I'd also point out Samsung is coming out with a 5.3 inch phone with... a 1280x800 resolution display.

Yeah, the MBP 13" has the same resolution as a God damn phone. Step it up Apple.

In your opinion everything is a look alike rip-off isn't it. Those Notebooks don't look at all like MBPs. They do look like Sony Vaios but and also a lot like the Samsung releases of the last year but they really don't look much like the MBP. The whole chassis is different, keyboard is different, bezel, color is different.

Haha not at all.

I bought a Macbook Pro because it was the laptop with the best build on the market.

If this came out while I was looking for a new laptop, I would have bought the Samsung instead.

+1

My story exactly.

I now love OSX, but at the time if I could have gotten a Windows machine with the build quality and pure sexiness of a MBP, I would not be on this forum today.

I think what people need to realize is that... the OS X, however good it may/may not be, is not a $1000 OS. That's simply delusional. I don't understand all the "cool but does it run OS X" comments. It's akin to asking "but does it say Apple in the back". No it doesn't. What's it worth to you?

No one is saying Mac OS is a 1K OS, however, peopel are saying that high-quality software + high-quality hardware = a damn good product that's worth its price.

Just wondering but what makes OS X so good? I simply don't understand that. In fact I always need to resort to windows for school work simply because of the lack of software on OS X.

So yeah if I look objectively at it windows has more software and so its better.
