I just got the phone on Friday. It’s been busy doing “new iPhone things” that sometimes bog it down or chew on battery. Each day that lessens. Already today looks like it’s going to be a good day for performance and battery life

I mention this because there might be some people out there who haven’t upgraded in years and will go through the same thing, see this thread and panic.

Don’t panic.

I’m loving the battery life of the 11 Pro Max. Even compared to my couple of months old iPhone X, which by this point in the day would already be back on a charge, or attached to a battery pack. The 11PX has still got 46% left.

Today is my sort of real world use comparison to my X and I’m absolutely blown away.

Please don’t feed the sad pathetic little trolls. Let the mods deal with them.

These posts generally fall into categories if you graze the MR iPhone pastures.

- Apple should revert to old technology and designs
- Apple is too high priced even though competitor’s flagships are essentially the same price.
- Apple’s improvements this year are not worth an upgrade
- Apple’s phones won’t be popular this year, who’s holding off?
- Apple is falling behind in X

Maybe a couple more, but you can see these on every page in the phone forum it seems. And they’re all wrong based on the history of iPhone in general. I’m kind of surprised that you don’t see them on the Apple Watch sub-forums as reality has nothing to do with it, yet you don’t see the Watch being inferior to WearOS at all. There are no posts like the above there.

The trouble with forums such as these, is they often attract certain types of people.

There’s the informed, technically competent, of course. Of which, this forum has many, including actual rocket scientists.

There’s the less informed, but still technically competent who are happy to learn, share information and knowledge and accept new information.

Then there’s the cockwombles, the ones who think, if it’s a specification, then it must be huge. It simply has to have X or Y and no amount of information to the contrary will convince them otherwise.

What there’s often less of, are the average joe public, for whom none of this nonsense matters one iota. They care, is it better than my previous device? Does it work? And does it do what it’s supposed to?
And those people make up the vast majority of people.

If I haven’t mentioned your particular category of participation, I do apologise, you’re as valuable as the rest of us - I just had to generalise a bit, or we’d be here all day :p

They intentionally put 4GB this year, so we can upgrade next year.

An aspect which, as Apple don’t specify how much RAM a device has, the vast majority of iPhone buyers neither know, nor care about.

Hell, I do know how much RAM the phone has and it didn’t stop me from buying it. Because I know it’ll be fine this year and for the next 4 years easily. By which time it will be a distant memory to me anyway.

they intentionally put in an LCD screen in the 11 this year so we can upgrade to OLED next year.

See how useless your statement is?
You don’t know what Apple’s design goal and manufacture capacity was this year.

All very true, and folks do have legitimate questions about their not-insignificant purchases to be and upgrade plans.

However, one can distill those categories one step further, ‘Don’t buy a new Apple iPhone’.

....the way that they should run. Apple dropped the ball on this one and thought by putting old ram size in phone that the processor would make up for it...guess what, it doesn’t. Next year will be 6gb but by then it might need 8 )))

Thanks for linking your sources. Lots of info there.

I only have personal experiences with my Phones. My Pixel 3a on Android v10 is just as fast opening apps as my Iphone 11 Pro. Apps tested are IG, Twitter, Amazon and Youtube. Youtube opened a second faster on Iphone but the videos loaded the same. That could be ram or IOS V13. But the important take away is a $300.00 phone is just as fast as a $1000.00 phone.

And the reason I bought the 11 was because of the LCD screen. I hope next year they still have a LCD option. For those who want/need/must have OLED they can buy the pro.

Yet mods let these threads stand but will suspend you for calling them what they are..quite poor really
There's a lot of trolls around launch every year and while the original post may obviously be a troll post, I would imagine they consider the content of the whole thread when deciding whether to wasteland it; i.e. if there's relevant and/or useful discussion throughout.

Absolutely. Couldn’t agree more. Double standards. I’m waiting to be suspended for my previous post saying don’t feed the trolls!

I’m sure it will come as I got suspended for saying the same yet the person who wanted to get a reaction is allowed to post and wind people up...

Guess clicks matters more than loyal posters who come here to talk tech

I’m afraid it does seem to be like that sometimes doesn’t it? A real shame.

There’s an awful lot more to it than opening an app. And the 3A, as a budget phone is great, but it’s performance is years behind that of the latest iPhones, it’s not even matched to last years iPhones. The Pixel is the only android phone I would consider in the future however Google’s quality control is pretty much non existent. I had two Pixel 3’s and both were faulty. One had a screen fault, the second one had a faulty power button. I also had a 2XL Panda which was also returned due to faults.

So yes a $300 may open apps as quick as a $1000 phone but that’s not the bigger picture, Apple warranty is second to none in terms of phone repairs or replacements which can prove invaluable.
The resale value of devices even years later also plays a big part, as if you pay more to buy it you get more back where as with other manufacturers you pay a price close to an iPhone and get in comparison nothing in return.

The ongoing software updates also add to the value, making a device effectively up to date for 5+ years. The best you get with Android is the Pixel line, but that is only 3 years. It’s the little things like this that matter the most when people are looking to spend large amounts on a phone, and in turn, that’s why they choose an iPhone.

For being an Apple “hater” as one put, I sure do have a lot of Apple devices, in fact all are except one laptop lol, so calling me names doesn’t bother me, I know who I am.

Link was removed go find them yourselves, we all have choices, and I’ve never said don’t buy this or that, I’m simply saying my choice is after hearing and seeing the evidence, it’s not near worth the money to upgrade from my X, maybe next year will be a real Pro model worth it,

It’s your money to spend or finance , just like it’s my money to save even though I can afford it, I choose not to throw money at their accounts but keep in mine. Call it what you want. They have become at min a 3 year cycle for true upgrade...For sure the wrong person took over after Jobs.

Lol, no they intentionally put 4gb of ram to finally get old inventory used up....little camera upgrade and little processor upgrade and wola...We have a “Pro” model yahooooo. Hopefully it will be updated by next year for the many that are skipping this year again.

Agreed there is alot more than opening apps. You just need to weigh what is most important to yourself. Seems as though you have bad luck with phones.

I disagree with you on performance of last year Iphones compared to the Pixel 3a. The performance is marginally different when comparing the prices. Please explain to me how Iphones are years ahead of the Pixel 3a on V10 Android? I dont think that is true at all. We can go back and forth with what differs the two but the fact is they both are good phones and each phone has their advantages.

There are numerous tests available online that show the iPhone processing power is faster than any android flagship let alone the 3A. I’m not saying that personally the difference is going to be noticeable to most, but to some it will matter. Such as the RAM management on the Pixels is behind, keeping apps open in the background isn’t it’s strong point. Having to take longer to process a photo etc.
