I'm not saying that this thread is much different from the others. Most of them derail into discussions of a necessity of a few major missing features.

While one could argue though that the sticky is dedicated to compile all wishes for all updates, regardless of when, and that this thread only is about the next update (being 2.3) or similar, I do think that it's generally the same purpose.

Landscape Keyboard in more apps like Mail and SMS.

Email notifications on the Unlock Screen (why is it that we only get SMS and call notifications? Something like "MobileMe - 2 New Emails" would be nice).

A character counter in SMS app so you know if you go over the 160 character limit.

Allow Mail app to attach pictures from the iPhone (unless I am doing it wrong, it looks like you have to go to Photos and select a picture and hit email this photo, should be able to go to Mail and write an email and attach a photo).

Should also allow more than one photo to be attached to an email. If there's going to be a limit, the limit should be 3 or 5 or something other than 1.

That stuff would make me really happy Apple :)

I need/want 2 things......

-PUSH (not just IM but weather alerts etc)
-Fully developed (not half-assed) GPS navigator app. With voice and everything.

I am giving apple another year, if we don't get these by next summer, I won't be buying a 3rd iphone....

Uhh! Steve Jobs is worried now!

That wasn't a threat...We already know apple don't give two *****se about what we want or need. It's just I wouldn't buy another iphone (with improved hardware etc) without the said software/system upgrades, that's all...
eg; "improved GPS chip/accuracy but still no navigator" etc....

There are plenty of things that I would like to see appear on my iphone (I wont bore you with them).

I dont feel like I am owed new features. The fact that new updates come out at all is quite something to my mind. I never once got an update to my moto razr.

I try to keep in mind that Apple is trying to make money. If they think that they will sell loads of an app that allows MMS then it will be released (or if an update means sales of the phone increase then they will do it).

as has been suggested before it is worth letting apple know through their feedback process what features you want

I would be in heaven with:

Copy paste
Landscape typing in ALL apps
The ability to edit and sync notes on the comp
The ability to turn location service on and off INSIDE an application

A feature I can only describe as Finder.

Basically, I want to be able to transfer files easily to and from the iPhone, preferably via any method of choosing (USB, Bluetooth, WiFi). Sometimes I need to type up something in just a text format on my MBP and then e-mail it through the iPhone. I don't want to pay $30 or whatever for some tethering feature that I would hardly use.

We just need the basic folders - documents, music, videos, pictures. Audio recordings could be stored in the music folder, potential video recordings in video. The others are self-explanatory.

This.

And a redesigned YouTube interface that actually allowed you to look for things.

And all the usual things we always mention.

I'd like to see a native document syncing, storage, and viewing application with iDisk integration. Using Mail or Photos in order to view documents is unwieldy, particularly when there is no wireless access available where this application is most desired. There are some applications on the App store that accomplish this but it seems that this function should be integrated into the iPhone.

I also remain disappointed in the quality of the built in camera and software. With up to 16 gigs of storage built in it seems the iPhone could make an excellent digital camera, especially if there were integration with iPhoto and iMovie.

Mobile iChat would be a welcome addition. Bonus points for canned responses.

Finally, a small suggestion, but some home screen customization beyond wallpapers would be appreciated. I'd like to be able to take a quick glance at the home screen to see if I had received any e-mails. The popups for missed calls, voice mails, and SMS are appreciated but have limited information.

What I find awesome is that you guys will spend the time posting here instead of trying to get some kind of "movement" going.

Apple has a feedback section on their website. If everyone here could agree on the top 5 features (via a poll or something) and then get everyone to copy and paste those agreed upon features into the feedback form...it might start working.

Then, for those on other forums, start posting there to do the same...and then email others with iPhones the link and the feature requests.

I mean it's cool to keep starting these threads to talk about stuff, but nothing is going to get done unless we "get on the horn" and start letting apple know in large numbers.

copy/paste
and push notification

sounds like an apple keynote presentation in Jan. I bet we get 3.0 with this stuff in Jan. They need content for the keynote. Laptops are done, the only other thing they have to announce will be iMac and Mac Pro related. iPhone 3.0 and maybe a new iphone in June? WHich will make me mad, these things need to come out every 2 years when our contracts are ready not every 12 months.
