Can't believe Apple is so cheap and does not even include a Sim ejection tool with new phones.

I'm curious who decided this was a good idea, too for non-SIM free people,

I'll bet some 'suit' thinks it was good deterrent from one switching carriers, lol

Update- Apple sucks!!

They said they'd have to swap whole phone and charge me whole phone for me damaging it (the tray notnphone) since they don't do sim tray only swaps on 7/7P at this time.

They had a tool in the back to bend it back and as far as I can tell works ok again but nuts! He said in a few months maybe they'll just replace that part but for now that's only option. He said he'd do me a favor and put nothing in the notes.

And gold SE they have 1 in stock at other location 30 min away and are calling to confirm.

This is the new apple. Smh.

Are you sure this wouldn't have been the case with the 6s or 6 when they were initially released?

Why does Apple suck? You destroyed the SIM tray with a paperclip.

I was just wondering if it's a problem with limited availability of individual parts when the phones are first released.

Apple. Run like a mom-and-pop shop. But collect like a Money grubbing major corporation that they are. Where they do not have the resources for spare parts including a highly sophisticated and technological Sim tray.

Stupid question. If the phone is the same chassis, won't a 6s/6s+ work?

Because it was a paper clip? Not a knife/scissors or something you would think could cause serious damage

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201337

Look at that knowledge base article demonstrates it with a paper clip. Hmm

Except the color will be obvious since I have a matte black

They wanted to charge me 8 bucks for gold SE sim tray and never explained that When I drove 25 minutes to other location.

Managed waived it when i raised concern.

Ordered a 5 pack of sim tools off amazon. Never using a paper clip ever again.

Some may feel im entitled but maybe we'll see when you come back to this thread down the line and see my perspective when/if it happens to you.

I expect better.

I used a paper clip before but it never caused any damage.
Either way if I broke my sim tray I wouldn't blame someone else.
Obviously you pushed it too much for it to bend like that.

I've used paper clips for the better part of a decade with idevices. Not common but it has happened in my case.

With 7/7P having a rubber gasket and new "waterproof design" it is objectively harder to get the SIM card out. Two times was enough to render my paper clip useless and violent. Salt in the wound is not including a cheap sim tool with every phone.

I'm just floored the best they could do, in event they couldn't fix the sim tray, was to charge out of warranty price to replace the entire device.

Shake my head as an understatement.

Not even sure how you could break it with a paper clip it's basically the same thing as the sim ejector tool. Unless you tried using a too big paper clip and broke it that way.

Summary: ham fisted user breaks sim slot, not once but twice, rages at Apple.

Gets one free sim slot replaced, Apple don't have spare iPhone 7 parts (as they didn't expect ham fisted users so soon) so a replacement would be a whole device, which they would rightly expect to charge said user for but they help out as best they can by straightening the bent part for the user.

User rages anyway. Think that amply covers this thread.

Nailed it. Missed a few details along the way but well done

Replaced only after being redirected to another store. With 1 in stock. And being told at the very end I would be charged. It was waived fortunately they were nice. But lame process

Being told witH a straight face they'd charge me out of warranty cost to get my whole 7plus replaced (even if i were to want to do that they'd then have to order the phone I'd almost guarantee 7plus isn't in stock). Subject to change later if they start stocking and replacing that part. That's logical if I were a millionaire meth head.

I am grateful they fixed my sim tray though. Good enough/good as new

The sim tool is included with the sim-free phones. I bought one today and it's there in the box.

Correct for sim free

Carrier ones do not.

My SE sim free had it. Lost it over time.

7plus att even bought outright did not
