Yeah, thought I'd multi-quoted a post that said the sim-free phones didn't have it.

Note to everyone: the iPhone 7 sim tray has a small neoprene (?) gasket on the tray for water resistance, which is a new feature. So the sim trays are not interchangeable with earlier models.

Stupid question. If the phone is the same chassis, won't a 6s/6s+ work?
No water resistant SIM tray

I've used paper clips for the better part of a decade with idevices. Not common but it has happened in my case.

With 7/7P having a rubber gasket and new "waterproof design" it is objectively harder to get the SIM card out. Two times was enough to render my paper clip useless and violent. Salt in the wound is not including a cheap sim tool with every phone.

I'm just floored the best they could do, in event they couldn't fix the sim tray, was to charge out of warranty price to replace the entire device.

Shake my head as an understatement.
Do you want it easy to come out so you can then blame Apple when it allowed water through it because it wasn't closed all the way?

I think apple can't be blamed if the thing waterlogs period because they say so upfront. I'm sure people who have gaps in their bezel between body and glass screen might have that issue too, quality control variances to make waterproofing not work out.

So I don't blame on submerging my device to try it, and never have historically.

Good to know it can resist a few splashes though

Not surprising. The sim tray is a cheap piece of metal that is worth 1 cent at most. If apple was to sell them they would be 99$

I have the gap of the body and screen. So do most of the displays at the Apple Store. It's normal

But, you didn't quit when you were ahead with a paperclip. You broke two phones.

It happened in succession after taking a nap and being groggy . I hadn't even realized what happened until it was too late fwiw.

I obviously took the 7plus sim out to put into SE not just be sim less. When I swap between phones the trays come out in succession I'm funny like that.

I appreciate how many apple social justice warriors are in here. Tim would be proud.

I see so waterproofing is probably covered. I had a 7 like this my 7plus has no gap though

Best water proofing: DO NOT GET YOUR PHONE WET. Wait, I think there is a forum or 5 on that topic.

You obviously broke two phones after nap time. Maybe you should've had a juice box first.

Apple was not at fault in any way here. This one was all you!

They are $8 according to the OP, unless you whine like they did.
How am I whining? What a weird reply.

And I never knew apple officially sold them for 8$. Can't seem to find them on the Apple Store.

Come on two seven. You are known for being a cool guy in here. Stop writing 12 year old replys.

I could see the 7/7P sim tray being 20 bucks with that waterproof seal haha (apple never sells spare parts that aren't accessories , it's a "service part")

I think he's just in contentious mode, wouldn't sweat it!

2 years ago my sim tray wouldn't latch into my phone. Apple never offered a 8$ repair! Lol. They said they don't fix them they replace the phone.

The whining comment wasn't directed at you :)

I am not trying to cool or uncool. I just think its ridiculous when people make a mistake and then expect Apple to cover it. On top of that, when they don't initially cover it, the OP comes back saying Apple sucks.

If I smash the windows out of my truck, should Ford cover it? When they don't do they suck?

The OP should just take responsibility for what happened. Accidents happen, you fix them, and move on.

Yeah the gap is just a manufacturing thing. Some have some don't. 8/10 phones at my Apple Store do. In the video of the tear down there is a bunch of glue and stuff that prevents the water getting in.

I do accept fault insofar as a I used a tool apple recommended and due to how stiff 7/7P is that tool became useless and damaging after 3 times. They said it's stiff because it's waterproof. This is still why my paper clip became ineffective. This isn't my first rodeo, I've had every iPhone since first gen (except 5s, was really happy with my slate 5) and always a gsm carrier where I sim swap.

I don't think having zero stock at one store and literally only one at another and covertly trying to charge me after never mentioning it is far from "excellent customer service" many use synoymously with apple. This is for SE tray.

Also the check in guy telling me at second store literally everyone there uses a paper clip to pull sim's in store, When I asked if they had one to spare to avoid this issue again (no worries I bought a 5 pack on amazon for something similar) when the tech guy came out and used the ejector tool, was also lame but typical retail employee misinformation

I'm glad they fixed my 7P tray instead of being SOL, but lame that a month later they don't have any spare parts or a process for it except to swap the whole device and Pay the full replacement cost of phone and play the losing swap lottery once again when I already have a winner of a unit.

Also lame they have no flexibility to give me a returned phone sim tray or maybe if they replace 7 sim tray but not 7P sicne 7p is never in stock when they're physically the same, lame.

Since SE = 5s physically, lame they couldn't pull up if there was a 5s gold tray in stock to help out with to save an extra hour going to other store.

But you may think this is all amazing, wonderful, or any other hyperbole. Great, buy apple stock, worship the brand, tell everyone and convert them-- do whatever gets you by.

All could have been avoided if my att 7P came with a sim tool. Like my SE "sim free edition" did but I misplaced. I would not let that happen again in light of all of this

Everyone prior to coming into crapple told
Me don't worry and I'll get taken care of. I got taken care of but it wasn't without a 2 hour investment and lots of hurdles along the way.

One time i was at an american airport waiting to go home and i searched EVERYWHERE for something sharp (silly me) to open the damn sim tray to put my german sim back inside. Eventually i found a toothpick which broke off and a piece of it got stuck in the hole... i nearly cried. I arrived in Germany late, my last train home was 5 mins away and as i could not switch out the sim i could not buy a mobile train ticket either. Worst day of my life as the damn airport wifi did not work either lol it showed me how dependend i am on a working phone with mobile data

another time i was flying to Paris and i tried to change my sim during mid flight. Of course the damn needle fell on the ground just as the flight attendant walked by and stepped on it. Impatient as i am i tried it again and my damn sim card fell on the ground during turbulences. When we finally made it to the ground i was searching the floor of the plane. I was literally the last one on board sitting on the floor of an air plane like some damn fool. Eventually a flight attendant helped me search and even pulled up the seat and i ended up finding the sim under my shoe ..

end of the story ... sim cards hate me

oh and the funniest part about all of this ... i found the sim card removal pin in my wallet randomly 6 months later

You should hire a professional in the future to eject your SIM tray.

All could have been avoided if you had used the proper tool. Would you use a hammer to remove a screw? I get that it didn't come with the phone and that's annoying, but you could have ordered the same thing you ordered today and waited.

Again, if I walk outside and decide to open the windows on my truck with a hammer, would it be "lame" if Ford didn't pay for new windows? Would they "suck" as a company?

What bothers me about threads like this is people acting like companies owe them something for their own mistake. You made a mistake, it cost you two hours and what you would call "lots of hurdles", learn from it and move on. How much time have you spent complaining about it here and typing the words "lame" and "sucks".

Own up to your mistake, do what needs to be done to fix it, and move on.
[doublepost=1477346090][/doublepost]Even better, if I break out the windows on my truck and then break them out on a second truck in the same "post nap haze" should Ford cover both sets of windows?

This is where we are having circular conversation and I will cease having it post this post. Thanks for your input.

Apple doesn't sell sim ejectors. If they did I would have bought one instead of getting a similar product 5pack off amazon to avoid this again. Genius Bar at both locations had none to spare/no charity to offer (which is ok)

My full paid 7P att omitted including the sim ejector. I stated multiple times had it included it ironically and Apple didn't skimp, this wouldn't have been a problem.

Apple even recommends a sim ejector "or paper clip" in a knowledge base article of how to take out your SIM card. If that isn't a proper tool as deemed by apple, explicitly, then you cannot be helped

Good day, and I can see you're having a joyous Monday. May the rest of the week treat you equally well, good sir.

Don't know if they are, but they are inexpensive and come with the ring. At least worth a try.

Appreciate it!

If they aren't I'd be worried about them getting Stuck though.

Fortunately my problems across 7P and SE are fixed. And aren't what I'm critical of.

Everything else surrounding that, was a poor customer experience. I accept that and "move on" but thought it should be noted on a forum created for people to articulate their thoughts on apple related matters and products.
