Well the whole island thing is look to be boom for Apple, with cutesy animations to copy cats.

I, for one, would like to see a Castaway mini-game, try to help Tom Hanks and Wilson get off the island.

I'm guessing that Apple's entry from a couple weeks ago will be the winner. :p

In all seriousness, the only difference here is that a company is trying to cover up for their usual move to copy whatever Apple has done by "crowdsourcing" their efforts. It's possible some user will come up with something cool, but I think this is really just cover so they can say their users came up with this great idea and hope that everyone ignores how closely they copied Apple with their new setup.
Yup, and those users who will submit their ideas for Dynamic Island, have clearly seen the Dynamic Island so its obviously gonna be heavily inspired.

That's the point of this submission, look at Apple and think what you would like to have in your Dynamic Islands.

Android copying like the basic bitches they are.
realme =/= Android

And

Face it. Everyone "borrows" ideas from someone.

To quote Steve Jobs: "Good artists copy; great artists steal. And we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas."

Wait, not only are they about to copy it, they are even too lazy to come up with anything on their own?
When you go to write a comment but the top comment has already read your mind.

Exactly. And I bet their “designers” are on Fiver. Or maybe the MacRumors forums, lol.

It's interesting how wide the cultural gap is here. China has a very long history of apprentices emulating master artisans, closely duplicating their designs. It is a very natural, comfortable progression for them to use the work of others as a springboard. But in the West this seems odious to us as it reeks of the exploitation of someone else's work. As a Westerner I'm firmly in the latter camp, and learned at an early age that much is lost in the learning process when one simply copies work off a classmate's paper. However, I think one can at least recognize that the Chinese culture simply has a different approach to this. Ultimately, I think it is at their peril (in many ways). But this behavior is not really as sinister as it might seem to us looking on from the West.
This! I wanted to point that out as well but you were quicker.
Seen through the Chinese eyes, copying is a symbol of respect. It is deeply rooted in the culture and not seen as something negative.

Copy cat. Monkey see monkey do. The only thing they can’t copy is Apple’s profits and US market share. And the a16. But snapdragon 8 gen2 is about to be quite good.

Post a comment in the form of a drawing, GIF, or simply text, and explain how a potential realme Island would work, what it would look like, and how it would be beneficial - feel free to be detailed as our realme UI devs will be looking at all proposals and they know their stuff.

They know their stuff -- just not enough to come up with how to copy Apple's Dynamic Island without first crowd-sourcing ideas from their "loyal fans". If they really knew their stuff they might come up with something novel on their own.

Why not just prick up your ears and ask Lois and Meg what should and shouldn’t be done with an ear hole..?

What is it about Chinese society that makes them to steal rather than innovate?

Strictly speaking, you are largely correct, but that does not stop people, like me, who have had their IP blatantly stolen by Chinese manufacturers, from seeing their blood pressure rising more than a few points when they see stories like this.

It is reprehensible.

I'm a visual artist whose work has been blatantly and rampantly exploited over the last decade across China. So I certainly feel your pain at the same time I'm trying to at least comprehend Chinese culture.

Realme developers probably don't visit MR otherwise they would know that DI is a gimmick.
It may seem like nothing more than a "gimmick" from one point of view -- but I would suggest that it's actually an effective application of negative space in the UI, to cause what is ordinarily an eye sore to simply fade into the scenery and easily be all but forgotten. This is part of why I said early on that it's actually quite brilliant.

Now, as you reduce the size of the camera cut out, the technical necessity for this kind of "gimmick" obviously diminishes as well... but the thing is, negative space is still a useful and even necessary component of UI engineering. Thus, the Island can continue to exist and to provide a consistent and appealing user interaction long after the physical cut-out ceases to be visible to iPhone users.

That is to say: I submit that the feature will continue to exist, even long after the eyesore finally goes away.

(I also happen to think that -- crowdsourced or not -- there's little to no chance that realme or anyone else is going to actually come up with a better implementation. Apple put a lot of thought into this.)

Definitely RealMe trying to save corporate incarceration of using patent without permission or being sued otherwise.

a Heart and call it Love Island

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a not so very faithful company ... ahem RealMe "what's that skipper?!??"

Good times that show.

To make room for cameras and sensors?

Copyright. But this wouldn’t be a copyright issue.

MR (and Reddit) is full of cynics.
Cameras and sensors can live behind the display, though- no cutout required. There are a lot of other mobile phones that do this...
