I really wish Apple wouldn't define the largest products as the "best". Some people simply have different size preferences or needs. Why should the 4.7" phone lack OIS?

It's the same with the iPads, if you want a full sRGB color gamut, then you MUST buy the big one, not the smaller one. Why do Apple think those who prefer a 7.9" tablet dont' deserve the same quality screen as the big iPad?

Will it be the same with the iWatch? Only the big-wristed mofos get the greatest features, while us small-wristed men and women are stuck with an inferior iWatch?

I think it's okay if there are several differentiations between 4.7 and 5.5 inch phones, but Apple has to be VERY careful with this. The iPhone is not unlike the iPad, in that the people who buy the new iPhone expect to have the latest and greatest for the next year when they upgrade. If the 5.5 has too many add'l features, it will make the 4.7 phone buyers feel like second class citizens, and these are the core buyers who upgrade every year.

For me, I do not want a 5.5 inch but I DO want the very best features when I upgrade. Hope Apple considers that. The big differentiator for the 5.5 is screen size.

If there are spec differences, people will simply have to decide what is more important to them, a smaller screen or bigger, more expensive with better specs, just like with Macbook Pros.

Agree, however the general public is not as focused on the minor spec differences as the folks on tech boards. In the case of the MBP, most people will choose the screen size they want and then the price point or perhaps vise versa.

The general public will make their iPhone purchasing decision the same way, based on screen size or price point, just like they do with MBP. Both will have an awesome camera for amateur photography.

Still not sure Apple cant match the Notes' specs. I wish... but I dunno. It'll take a miracle.

I wouldn't worry about specs. Touchwiz running on top of the world's slowest mobile OS will ensure that your iPhone will still feel faster, smoother and more powerful.

Is that the goal?

"iOS device" in a dozen different sizes...

1.3, 1.5, 4, 4.7, 5.5, 7.9, 9.7, 12.9, etc.

All with the same OS, sensors and features..?!?

Apple has two sizes of the upcoming iPhone. Personally I couldn't care less about the "phablet" class of phones, but some people like them so Apple should offer them.

It would be sensible for the larger size to have a more powerful GPU, and the CPU may be clocked higher since cooling is likely better. Battery size is larger, so despite a more power-hungry display and SoC, battery life is likely to be better, and users can go longer before having to replace the battery. Those are all sensible, even inherent, features for the larger phone.

A smaller size can be considered a phone feature as well, since it's easier to carry around. Why make that feature incompatible with the high-end camera feature?

Also, for those using MacBooks as a comparison, there are engineering reasons to spec the smaller laptops with lower performance. Not so for the phone cameras.

The iPod touch has a gimped camera compared to the iPhone but no one seems to care about that.

Well that analogy doesn't make much sense now does it? The iPod touch on sale still has the best available camera for the touch. Otherwise you could thrown in the iPads in that analogy because they also have inferior cameras. They're all just different product categories.

There have been plenty of other sources for the 5.5" recently which are just as credible as for the 4.7".

there have been sources for the case but not for these internal parts. And nowhereelse.fr doesn't have the best track record (not as bad as say Digitimes but far from perfect)

While everything could be faked, you seem to overestimate what a 3D printer can do.

given that we are talking about parts we see photos of and not something where they are actually in use, yes they could be faked off a printer.

I think people really like larger screen devices. Haven't you noticed how many people are carrying Notes and other phablets? The general trend is "big screens and bigger resolutions"

I don't know about where you are but here in LA I tend to see one Note or similar for every 20 or so iPhones, if that often. So I'm not really sure that the 'how many' is really that high.

and even if it is Apple doesn't have to follow such desires. Supposedly 'everyone' has been wanting NFC in phones for like the last two years. Apple didn't immediately jump on board and might still not this year.

Man - you people act like this rumor automatically means no OIS for the 4.7"....

RELAX!

4 days until its announced. You can all whine about a REAL product then. Until Tuesday, stop complaining about something that isn't even real yet.

Hey man, that calm and logical approach might work in Texas. But this here? This right here? This is the internet man. We got one f'n job to do: OVERREACT TO EVERY DAMN THING WE READ! We plan on doing our job well.:D

Ben Bajarin has some interesting tweets today. He references private notes which I'm assuming are talking points from Apple that are embargoed until after the event?

If true, I hope he enjoys getting embargoed from that kind of access for life. The point of those embargo's is that you say nothing. Not even vague comments about "well i can't tell you the details but there is something about payments".

Yep, many people consider a smaller phone more desirable. Even Apple said the iPhone 5 size was "just right". For those of us who need a portable phone, and don't carry a purse, that's probably true.

So disappointed. Now if I want the best phone Apple has to offer, I have to get a 5.5" iPhone (too big for me but I get others like it). :(
I don't mind Apple making a 5.5" iPhone along with the 4.7", but they should keep them the same spec wise.

If both of these sizes materialize, and that seems highly likely at this point, it'll be interesting to see how many are going to hold out for the larger iPhone with its rumored OIS camera, possibly better battery life and/or a higher optional storage ceiling, in addition to faint rumors of a more powerful processor for the 5.5" version.

My wild guess is the 5.5" will outsell the 4.7" by a large margin, and the size of that margin will be linked to the price premium for the larger one.

THIS!

I couldn't care less about a giant phone. I'd be much happier with my same old 4" phone. I guess I can live with 4.7" but its extremely irritating that they are turning the huge phone into the flagship model. It should be the same, perhaps with the smaller phone having a slightly higher DPI because it has the same resolution in a smaller package. Instead the 5.5" is going to have OIS, better resolution, better DPI, and have a sapphire cover. They've managed to sell hundreds of millions of iPhones with small screens, I think its safe to assume we don't all want to hold iPad minis to our heads.

An iPad mini is 7.9 in not 5.5

Exactly. It's not like the camera on the 5S is bad, and it will undoubtedly be better on the 6. Some of the general public will want the latest iPhone and pick the size they like regardless of specs. Some will buy an iPhone just because it is an iPhone, the 4S is proof of that. The tech people may prefer the best speced model if there even is a difference. It's not like the 4.7" will be lousy just because the bigger one is slightly better equipped.

I have been using a note 3 recently so I can see how big the iphone 6 5,5 will be. Man, I felt like a clown carrying around such an enormous thing. Not for me, I can't buy a thing that looks ugly to me even if it's 100x better

You mean to tell me that some of you would buy the 5.5" phone that you know will be too big for you (and probably be unhappy with), just to be able to say or feel like you got the phone with a better camera?

Comical! THATS why Apple loves you!

But the screen on the larger phones is easier to read and that will be important to many buyers. A Note sized iPhone 6 may hurt sales of the iPad mini.

I agree, it has obvious advantages but in my case I give higher priority to aesthetics.

This is Apple. Specs don't matter, remember? Hardware/software blah, blah, blah... tight integration... blah, blah, blah... software optimization, etc.

It seems specs don't matter around here when it doesn't affect you. The moment it does, seems like spec chasing isn't the sole provenance of Android. Get the 4.7" phone and be happy. You will have a phone that is more advanced than any iPhone you have or can get today. It will take you 2-4 years into the future with nary a worry. That 4.7" phone will likely meet your every expectation, and most likely surpass it.

Like penis envy, it's an unnecessary worry that you can't do much about.;)
