Reason why you have not updated to i(Pad)OS 26?

I dont think it’s that fair to compare a 0.2 update to an OS thats had a whole year of refinement. I havent noticed any mission critical issues on 26 (definitely no more than 18) my older devices to feel a bit choppy but chalking that up to optimisation rather than the OS itself so hope it will get better.

I have recently started using windows at work and my god, what a mess. I know MacOS, iOS etc are not perfect but they are a damn sight better than whatever Microsoft are shipping… so I’m thankful that I’m only seeing minor bugs from Apple

Do you like Liquid Glass at least?

I despise liquid glass. It ruins my usability of my iPhone 17. which has no option but to run 26. I'm waiting as long as possible to update my Mac and watch to avoid the same disaster

I rarely update at all. I was on iOS 13 until late 2022, only then updated to 15. Now on iOS 17 and I believe my old 11 Pro won’t work good on 18 or 26, as well as I don’t like these OS versions at all. Same on Mac, currently on Sonoma because it doesn’t lag, updated from Monterey.

My only way is to upgrade my phone to 17 Pro, but I was very underwhelmed when I saw the actual phone and that it basically doesn’t have much to offer for needs. Updating just for the new OS?? How dumb is that. A phone is a phone, a boring ugly large slate that makes calls and takes ugly computational fake photos, that’s it. My current iPhone does just that, why change anything?

If phone dies or I get really tired from iOS 17 or if it no longer opens websites I need, will probably upgrade… to Android. Sick and tired of this digital prison and lack of features, at least there are cheaper options that will make calls and photos just… same or even better? I guess

These days even small updates cause bugs. I am on it too btw, too afraid to have something broken by dumbo Apple engineers… they always do that. And then never fix

Will not upgrade to 26 until all the bugs are fixed.

I know not every single device or software is 100 percent perfect, but I am even thinking about switching to Android (Pixel) phone...

I'm staying on iOS 18 as long as I can.

Work requires I use both Android and iPhone, years of side by side experience was fairly similar until recently. Suddenly this iOS 26 debacle has caused Android to look better than ever.

I haven't updated to the new system in the first versions for a few years now. Neither for iOS nor for macOS. For example, with macOS, I wait until summer, until it reaches version .6 or .7, when most of the problems are resolved. This allows me to make a smooth transition from one system to another, without encountering errors or issues.

It's been said before, and I agree with this: annual releases are no longer a good practice. Systems have become more complex, and Apple is not managing to solve all the issues that arise.

My conclusion is that if you prioritize stability, don't update as soon as a new system appears. Wait until spring or summer and only then update your devices.

I always update right away. never encountered a serious bug. its not like latter versions of the OS are without minor ones 🤷‍♂️

I didn’t upgrade, hoping that in the next version 27 they revert back to pre liquid glass UI not a fan of the new UI & no significant features for my old ip15. I did upgrade to Tahoe on M4 mini & it confirmed my dislike of the UI.

I’ll upgrade my M3 iPad Pro in the next dot release as a prep step for my ip17 where there’s no choice

I never update for the sake of updating; there has to be a compelling reason.

At present, visual acuity is a compelling reason not to update.

With 26.2 dev1, the look of iPadOS 18 can be mostly restored by using reduced transparency and reduced motion.

What hasn’t been addressed is the imbalance in column width and font size in Mail, and the inconsistency between Apple apps.

And, of course, the loss of Split View through the three dots.

Every time a new beta is released, I update my test unit, use it for a few hours, then turn it off and store it until the next beta. My Air and Mini remain on 18.
