The only downside with the nexus 5 is the horrendous battery life, upgrading from a 4s to a 5s is night and day.

The guy does not know what he's talking about the nexus 5 does not have horrendous battery life at all.

The 5S is enough of a hardware upgrade to justify upgrading when coming from a 4S. Why on earth are you trying to talk yourself out of it when you're obviously interested in the device? You're going to get a larger screen, higher resolution, more RAM, more color choices, better camera/flash, superior A7 processor for gaming and launching apps, better iOS 7 experience and much more.

If you want to wait for the 6 I'd be careful, it might not come out until October and that's 10 months away.

What higher resolution? It's still the same 326 pixels per inch with the iPhone 5S....

It's not theory, it's fact. A colleague actually has the phone, and it beats my 5s hands down. Those tests were carried out on a phone "out the box", they really do take a while to optimise battery life, but if you don't want to believe me that's fine.

Also you failed to post the 3G graph, which shows the 5s losing to most others in battery performance wise, which is the real world for most people who aren't on wifi and don't have/can't get 4G/LTE. The 5s isn't even on the graph! But the 5 does poorly in comparison.

And then there's actually using the phone, as a phone...

I go by real world experiences, not benchmark tests which are easy to manipulate and easy to get unfair comparisons from, different settings etc. Based on my colleagues phone, doing the same amount of browsing, Facebook, YouTube etc by the end of the day (both heavy-ish users) I'm on 20% or under, he's got 50% or more!

Benchmarks are taken in the real world!

humm should I believe u or a very well respected blogger that praises the nexus 5 on everything except the battery life? That is about as no bias as u can get.

Hi,

My contract is with my carrier is almost up, and they want me to pick a new phone for myself. Coming from the 4S and having iPads the 5S is a pretty obvious pick.

I would like some compelling reasons not to get the 5S, preferably from those who have it.

Thanks!

With superior, more versatile phones with more flexibility and an OS that allows you to control your phone, there are several reasons

HTC one, galaxy S4, nexus 5, Galaxy Note 3 (if you don't mind a phablet/big phone), LG I think it's the pro, moto x, you name it it's there.

Considering the fact that Ios has become quite comfortable with waiting for android to do it and then doing it right after and not as well, why not go with something that is propelling technology forward?

Evidence? In fact it's quite opposite. 64 bit desktop processer. Fingerprint sensor alone is worth it.

This is the best iPhone yet imo.
The 4S had a fault, at least mine did, as when using the headset there were horrible feedback or something making conversations real hard.
I never got that fixed...
The touch-id works great, it´s a speedy machine and you´ll be surprised at the battery life you´ll be getting :D

The A7 will destroy a 2008 MacBook Pro

In certain situations they may be close, but I doubt the A7 would come out with an overall win. They are designed totally differently and for the most part you can really only compare synthetic benchmark numbers(which aren't always good representations of actual performance).

I'm not trying to say the A7 isn't an impressive processor, it certainly is fast and very capable. But it isn't a desktop processor.

Evidence?

History serves as that

Fingerprint sensor was done by android first.

Quick toggles were done by android first

Taking pictures while shooting video was done by android first

Panoramic camera was done by android first

Siri was done by android first (apple simply bought the company)

4" screens were done by android first

Facebook and Twitter integration was copied from android

Quick launch buttons were done by android first

Front cameras and video calling were done before apple as well.

There's your evidence

The battery life is actually better than a 5s, ignore the initial reviews as they are based on out the box spec. It takes a while for the batteries and apps to optimise, plus there's a small part where people are turning wifi off with the toggle, but it continuously searches still, this eats the battery however going into the wifi settings and turning off this search irradiates that issue. Nexus 5 has a 2300 mah battery, and a low memory iOS in kitkat. Go on the various android forums, and I'm sure they'll confirm this. :)

Android fans on an Android fn forum saying an Android phone is better than a 5S... Yes I agree that is obviously the most reliable source for information.

Just like Apple fans on an Apple forum insist that the 5S is better than the N5?

It goes both ways. They're both good phones, they both have strengths and weaknesses, and the one that works best will depend on the intended usage.

what android has a fingerprint sensor? Doubtful it works

Panoramic apps were available on iOS, sorry nice try.

Android had a lot of first, but they were halfbaked at best

Fingerprint was around long before Android and the only droid implementation sucks.

Apples works as it is on a locked system and as their own ad says, it works as it just dissapears. No leader area you need to run fingers across, it is just a case od holding the home button for a second.

Quick toggles also before android.

Taking picture while video recording. May be first but is stupid. Much better to be able to take a still photo from the recording. Focus on doing one amazing first. This way you guarantee you will have a once in a life time moment and just need to pick it out.

Since there has been iOS there has been Pano apps. And neither os invented using them.

Who cares if android used a 4" screen first. That's just childish.

Facebook and twitter nor quicklaunce wasn't android either

Fact is most features we associate with a os were all previously implemented in older less popular ones first.

But even if Android did ALL first... i want the one that does them BETTER.

Apple lost Twitter and Facebook posting , that hurt but I think Apple's Pano camera is the best.

Yes, I came from an 4S with iOS6.1 still running on it, the upgrade to 5S in early december was night and day. I am not a heavy user, but my 4S battery was flat between 5-15% in the evening. My 5S lasts 2 whole days for me. Everything is just better, lighter, bigger screen, better camera especially when light is not so good and its fast and not sluggish at all. It is a huge upgrade coming from a 4S and i like iOS7 on it. I am very happy with the upgrade. :apple:

Spoken like true fanboys gentlemen

The iPhone is why we are here in the iPhone forum. Most of us have one and love using them.

Again, I see no reason to NOT recommend that someone buy an iPhone. It's an amazing device and with my 5S, I am just excited about it as I was with that first iPhone back in 2007.

If I were in your position, I'd wait for the iPhone 6 especially if you want a larger screen. As far as the fingerprint sensor goes, I suspect Apple will improve it after a several months of customer use and complaints. MacRumors rumor here.
