I ordered the 17" iMac G5 (2) Upper Fan Kit for the G5 iMac I have been slowly rebuilding.

One or both of the current fans bearings are going and making a high-pitched squeal and its bothersome. This website claims these fans are original Apple parts and unopened, so I hope that solves the noise issue.

Next up after this will be a new display. I found a place that sells replacement displays for $40! I hope its for real but still need to vet the site and part. The display on this G5 works, but due to its age, it's quite dim.

Wow. I just tossed a pair of fans from my G5 iMac. I gutted the thing, and was impressed at how it all fit together. I'd have sent you the fans for the shipping... I've got the old screen, if you want a spare... I didn't know if anyone would want to buy an old iMac G5 17" screen. Don't know how many people may have cracked screens that need replacing. It's not an easy part to replace.

I would've taken you up on the fans had we known! The place I bought them wanted to charge me a lot more than they advertised and that advertised price was high to begin with IMO. But I was able to negotiate with them and get the price down to a more acceptable level.

It's crazy out there sometimes...

Regarding the fan noise someone mentioned: I never really ever heard the fans in mine (unless there was literally *nothing* making *any* sound at all, and then I could almost make myself think that I could hear them). Well, until I took it in because the hard drive died, and the Apple store repair monkeys broke the temperature sensor (I can only assume) and the thing sounded like it was roaring towards V2 at the local airport...:( But I got a new iMac out of the deal, so I couldn't really yell too loudly... :)

Well the HDD is out and the SSD is in! I kept the HDD mounting bracket in place since it had the temperature sensor on it and put the SSD bracket inside of it and held it in place with some 3M two-sided tape. Then I placed the SSD on that and used some more tape to hold it in place. I put it all back together and booted it up from the Leopard disc, partitioned and formatted the drive and now the install has begun. Looks like about 30 minutes to complete, maybe less.
