Lol @ all the people who would "promptly" notify their carrier and "immediately" return it.

Stealing from a corporation that has $80 billion?
Come on guys....

Either way, if you were in his situation many of you would also keep it.

If you are rich, then put it like this:
You deposit $500,000 in the bank and they somehow make an accident and put $1,000,000 in your account. Now..would you immediately notify your bank and have the money returned?

I sure as hell wouldn't....

Money is what keeps the world moving these days, even if you don't like to believe it. People will do anything for money.

I got 2 16GB iPhone 4Ss for $300 each and only opened one new account. I think they sent me two phones because of some ordering bug when the servers were overloaded on the first day of pre-orders. I remember it took several attempts before my order went through but I guess two of my attempts went through somehow.

I didn't know my order went through twice until it was already ready to ship. I guess I got lucky. :)

I called Apple and tried to cancel the second order but they said it was too late because it was already prepared for shipment. They told me to keep it or sell it on eBay or do whatever I wanted with it. They didn't want it back but they said I could return it if I wished. I gave it to my dad and now he has a 4S even though he didn't qualify for an upgrade!

Been reading a ALOT about this same events, people getting told to keep it, im afraid if i call there gonna flag me and tell me send it back. but if htere telling everyone to keep it, i dont see any harm really. however when the preordered one came, on the package, like the shrinkwrap on iphone, it has my phone number on it, so when someone activates this phone, will it trip my account and alert att i have 2 of them? or when activating can they put there simcard in and it avoids my account period.

fact of matter mine came from att...with that being said, they would totally take the phone back, customer service is nowhere near apples. lol

Maybe you are willing to rollover on your morals but I am not. Just because they have money does not mean that I have the right to take it.

Call yourself a thief if you would keep it because that is what you are.

Hate to hurt your feelings but Apple would take it back as well.

I meant to say two 32 GB 4Ss not 16 GB.... anyways...

And when I got my phones all I did was call up Verizon and verify which phone was supposed to go with which number and they activated both of them for me no problem and no questions asked (it was as if I bought the second one from somebody on eBay who got it as his upgrade and then re-sold it - nothing wrong with that).

Call yourself a thief if you would keep it because that is what you are.
I'm not a thief! Apple told me I could return it if I wished or keep it. They really don't care. Seriously. I talked to Apple. They understood and admitted the error of placing my order twice, but didn't have any mechanism to prevent the second phone from being shipped to me and they didn't really care either way if I kept it or returned it.

I don't really feel bad for Apple because they are not struggling and they know that it's worth it for them to give something a little extra to a customer who might otherwise be unhappy (I was basically double charged and I could have refused to pay for the second one that I didn't order). I just think of it as Apple rewarding me for being a loyal customer for so many years.

lol at people trying to justify keeping something they didn't pay for because of a mistake. You have obviously forgotten the golden rule. How would you feel if you made an extra principal payment on your mortgage bill and then your wife did the same day because you didn't communicate and she didn't see your payment. Also, the mortgage company had a billing error so only 1 payment got applied even though you made it twice.

I'm sure you would be like, "Oh well, mistakes happen and we'll just move on..." No! You would fight tooth and nail to get it corrected.

But when you are on the other end of it, sure, take advantage of it and call "stealing" "taking advantage of a situation".

Stealing is Stealing

Dishonesty is Dishonesty

People that don't follow the Golden Rule or care about morals will be repaid. The world calls that Karma. The Bible calls that Justice.

Umm, if you make the effort to return it (and it looks like you did) then that does not apply to you. It wasn't directed at you anyway. Simply thinking that it is OK to keep it without first talking to them does.

Steve Jobs would have kept it too.

From his biography, "One day Jobs needed a part that was not available, so he made a collect call to the manufacturer, Burroughs in Detroit, and said he was designing a new product and wanted to test out the part. It arrived by air freight a few days later. When McCollum asked how he had gotten it, Jobs described—with defiant pride—the collect call and the tale he had told. “I was furious,” McCollum said. “That was not the way I wanted my students to behave.” Jobs’s response was, “I don’t have the money for the phone call. They’ve got plenty of money.

This needs to be a sticky on the front page, for no other reason than to cut down on all the "moral high ground" posts. If Saint Steve took advantage of the system, then by golly, it sets the bar for everyone to do the same.:D

Except that by calling collect, he gave the company a choice if they wanted to accept charges or not. He didn't steal.

The quote doesn't relate to this thread at all.

Who here has 2 iphones, 1 from canceled order and 1 from store? I got a $200 charge on CC for the canceled iphone and that is all i have heard about this. what about you guys?

All moral issues aside, you need to call and let them know what happened so you can return the second phone. Depending on what state you live in, this is a crime and you can be prosecuted. I don't think you want to risk having a criminal record over this. Just call them.

I checked with a handful of the more sanctimonious, judgmental co-workers in my office for a ruling. They decreed that it does, in fact, relate to the thread. The deciding comment was "what would Saint Steve think" in handing down their judgment.

Did you get the 2nd phone free or just at the unsubsidized price. I might feel bad keeping it if it was free but unsubsidized, not so much. Why don't you call 1800 MY APPLE and tell them, and ask them if you can keep it?

The Apple rep actually suggested that I sell it on eBay but I gave it to my dad instead since he wanted an iPhone but didn't qualify for an upgrade.

Steve & Woz built a "blue box" to defraud the phone company too, way back before Apple. THey used it to make long distance calls anywhere in the world. THey not only made one for themselves, they also made a bunch and sold them - 50 or 100, I can't remember exactly. The new bio is really fascinating ;)

That is illegal. Was Steve brought to justice for this? What about Woz? Has the statute of limitations run out?

It does relate, in the fact that Steve said that company has a lot of money and he doesn't, so it makes it ok to deceive said company for unscrupulous purposes.

Only difference is that your not a company that's stacked with millions of dollars, if you were, i don't think you'd be fighting "tooth and nail" for it.....

Oh and, Karma does not exist.
It's just an illusion.
You do a good thing, and someone does a good thing to you?
Well those two events are NOT related.. at all.
Eventually your bound to help someone and someone is bound to help you, its not like your never going to be helped in your life. And just cause someone helps you doesn't mean its "Karma"

One of your phones should have been $199 and the other should have been $599. Later, the system might catch up and bill you accordingly.

this will happen. May take some time, but eventually they will track down the discrepancy and come after you for the money.

Do not lull yourself into any false sense of security. return the phone and stop trying ride for free.

I wouldn't spend the money. They will eventually discover the mistake and seek return. If you're in possession, you must return it. Why is it right to do the wrong thing? Find a loophole and this justifies stealing?

If you were homeless and found a mans wallet with $1,000 in it.
Would you return the wallet and do the "right" thing?

I have it new in box, how do you activate it? do i open it and take sim card out, and when i give to her is it useless?? or does it have ot be activated from my simcard, how do you activate/ what must i do./ not do

yes i would. I've been very close to homeless before. You toss that around like it's something trivial, plenty of homeless people around. If you've ever been there, you wouldn't make light of it.

Everything I have now, I earned. So yes, I have a different outlook on life. I believe in being honest and doing the right thing.

You're just looking for ways to cheat the system, or trying to find justification for gaming the system (very poorly I might add) and yes I realize you are not the OP. But your posts tell me enough about your "ethics".
